Funeral Details: August 15, 2024 at 10:00am Aurora United Church | 79 Victoria Street, Aurora, Ontario

Trevor passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024 in Aurora, Ontario. Beloved husband of Rosemary Pemberton, father of daughters, Alison (Steve) Taylor, and Jessica Gibbs, and grandfather of Jack, and Silvia Taylor, and Leo Gibbs. Trevor was predeceased by his parents, Daisy Isabelle and Cuthbert Lisle Gibbs, brother Harold (Cassie) Gibbs and sister Joyce (Peter) Gubi. Trevor will be fondly remembered by his sister Patsy Melville, sister-in-law Janet Weel, brother in-law John Pemberton, nieces and nephews, Donna-Mary Proverbs, Susan Cole, Jane Larcombe, Anne Gubi, Peter Gubi, Lisle, James, David and Ann Gibbs, Ingrid Weel and Christine, Darcy, Eva and Max McNamara, extended family and friends.

Trevor was born in Barbados. He grew up near Worthing Beach, which always held a special place in his heart, and went to Harrison College. He was a graduate of McGill University and Western and a Chartered Accountant. He worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia for several years, including in Singapore, from where he and his first wife, Sharon Gibbs, travelled with their daughters to many places, including Bali, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines. He lived for many years in West Vancouver with his family, working in business, and married Rosemary Pemberton, also from Barbados, before moving to Aurora. Trevor wrote a historical treasury hunt mystery based in Barbados, and started a creative writing group at the Aurora Seniors Centre. He enjoyed badminton in West Vancouver, Aurora and Newmarket. He was involved in the West Vancouver United Church as well as the Trinity United Church in Aurora.

Trevor will be greatly missed. He was an excellent storyteller known for his love of history and music, particularly Barbadian history and Calypso, Soca and Steel Band. He loved spending time with his grandchildren in Summerland, Ottawa and Georgian Bay. He loved the sea and walks along the beach and in the forests of British Columbia. He also loved swimming, meeting people from around the world and discussing politics, and animals and birds. He will be remembered for his stories, kindness, playful sense of humour, and “killer” badminton serves.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to Doctors Charles Cho, Yasmin Rahim and Danyel Saeed, and the nursing and support teams at Southlake Hospital. Trevor and his family highly valued such grace, kindness and respect.

A Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving will take place at the Aurora United Church (79 Victoria Street, Aurora) on Thursday, August 15, at 10 a.m., immediately followed by the Interment of ashes at the Aurora Cemetery (14253 Yonge Street, Aurora) to which all are welcome. Dear Rosemary and family,
Sending love and prayers for the loss of your beloved Trevor. I was so happy that we could meet at the Yacht Club when you were in Barbados earlier this year. Sadly the picture of the three of us could not fit the regulation size of the box. It was lovely reminiscing about growing up in Barbados in the forties and fifties. Trevor reminded me about the Ballroom Dancing Classes at the Davis’s home in Worthing..and how shy I was! He will always be in your hearts until you meet again.
    Gods Blessings and love,
    Angela

    Dear Rosemary,
It seems to be a time for goodbyes but thankfully also for celebrations. So many fond and treasured memories of Trevor and as you say he was able to spend precious time with family and friends.
Thank you for sharing with me. I will plan to join in the service tomorrow.
    Anne

Trevor lives on in the stories he loved to tell. I enjoyed being part of his Writers’ Circle in Aurora in 2023 and hearing his tales of Barbados and West Vancouver.

I’m sorry to hear or your loss Rosemary. I first met Trevor on the Sea Bus when we both travelled to work from North Vancouver to Vancouver. We reconnected at Senior Badminton each Monday and Thursday in West Vancouver many years later and at music concerts in the community.
Trevor kept in touch when you moved to Ontario in order to be closer to your birthplace, Barbados, so will miss his occasional messages.

Take care of yourself at this stressful time.

I am sorry to learn of the passing of Uncle Trevor. Rosemary, Jessica and Alison are in my prayers, as is Aunty Patsy in Barbados.

On behalf of Bajans in British Columbia, I am sorry to hear this very sad news and offer my most sincere condolences to Rosemary and all the family and friends mourning Trevor’s passing.

He was a great historian and was always eager and willing to share any information he had especially on Barbados and Bajans.
Trevor was a proud Bajan and supported events held in Vancouver.

He was acknowledged for having played an integral part of compiling names and promoting the book, “Some Barbadian Canadians”, a Biographical dictionary, which was produced and published in 2010 by the Barbados High Commission in Ottawa.

Barbados has lost a great “son of the soil”.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
