BARRIE – Terrence James (TJ) McBain, 77, died unexpectedly but with a peaceful expression on his face on April 4, 2023, in his home. He was born on December 19, 1945, in Timmins, Ontario, the son of Wesley James and Lucille Anne (Cowan) McBain.
Terry entered the Royal Canadian Air Force at 18 and then pursued a career with the Ontario Provincial Police before leaving when his twin sons were born (to be with his family more). He spent the rest of his career working for Brewers Retail (The Beer Store) delivering everyone’s favorite beer until he retired.
Terry was an avid outdoorsman his whole life and was most often found fishing on a boat, hiding in a duck or moose blind, or tending his traps on his trapline. Mid-life his outdoor passions shifted from rifles and fishing lures to putting greens and golf courses. In the end, he lived and breathed golf. He was eager for the snow to melt to start this year’s golfing season.
Terry had a carefree spirit and lived his life to the fullest; he was charming and witty but also told people “give your head a shake your eyes are stuck” when they needed to hear it. He had a big smile and an even bigger laugh. His nieces and nephews often referred to him as “fun Uncle Terry.”
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Wesley of Sudbury, ON, and Brian of South Porcupine, ON. Terry is survived by his children Christopher Clark McBain of Calgary AB, Jordan James McBain of Detroit, MI, and Susan Rose Malecki and her children/his grandchildren Matthew Antony Malecki and Sarah Elisabeth Malecki of Stittsville, ON. He is also survived by and was especially fond of his niece Kimberly Anne McBain and her mother/his sister-in-law Jacqueline McBain of Barrie, ON.
