Rona Elliott

1948-02-19 - 2018-05-25

Funeral Details:

It is with tremendous sadness we announce the passing of our loving mother and Nana Rona Elliott on Friday, May 25, 2018.

Beloved daughter of Richard (Patricia) and the late Sarah Elliott; cherished mother and friend of Michelle (Nigel) Canney; doting Nana of Saoirse and Faolan Canney; dear sister of Mary (Lou) Kelly and Pauline (Paul) Parker; much loved aunt of Laura, Lesley, Andrea, and Lauren.

Rona was born in Larne, County Antrim, Ireland and moved to Canada at the age of 8.  She attended Barrie North Collegiate and upon graduation moved to Toronto to work at CN Rail.  Eventually Rona returned to Barrie and worked at Georgian College in the Design Arts and Travel and Tourism Departments until her retirement.

Rona had a life long struggle with depression and later in her life developed COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease).  Despite these challenges she tried to maintain a positive outlook and a generous, loving heart for the people in her life.

Heartfelt gratitude for all the staff at IOOF that cared for Mum.  The professionalism and dedication is truly appreciated by the family.  Special thanks to Joanne Matte for your compassion and support during Mum’s final days.

Cremation. Interment at Barrie Union Cemetery (338 Sunnidale Road, Barrie) on Thursday, May 31 at 2:00 pm with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Knights of Columbus (93 Berczy Street, Barrie) from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

In Rona’s memory please consider a donation to the Canadian Mental Health Association (www.cmha.ca) or the Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation lung program (www.tgwhf.ca).
