It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard John William Humpage, who died peacefully on March 4, 2025, at the age of 74. Richard was born on October 16, 1950, in Cardiff, Wales, and spent much of his life in Canada, where he built a successful career with Aurora Cable and Rogers Communications.
A passionate man of many interests, Richard found joy in his lifelong hobbies, particularly his love for G-scale model trains, which he meticulously crafted and cherished. He was also a talented bass guitarist, playing in numerous bands spanning 50 years, including Five of a Fashion, Middle Earth, Yesterday Shoppe, Areakode, Tyme, Eclipz, BackBeat and Rebound where his musical talent and lively spirit were appreciated by all who had the pleasure of hearing him play and jamming together with him. He could often be found tinkering with his ham radios and CB’s known as VE3 U0D.
Richard was predeceased by his father, Robert Clearance Humpage, his mother, Hilda Rose Humpage (nee Dursley), and his sister Anne Humpage. He leaves behind his sister Clare, wife Cathy (nee Forhan) and will be dearly missed by his loving daughters Amanda (Robert) Judd and Sarah-Catherine (Jason) Hunter. His grandchildren, Madison, Owen, and Graham, will forever treasure the fond memories they shared with their granddad. Richard will also be sadly missed by Diane, Layla and Harper, we hope his memory brings them comfort.
Richard will be fondly remembered by many friends for his infectious sense of humour, musical talents, and the love he had for his trains. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A special thank you to the ICU doctors and nurses at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie who cared for him in his final days.
A cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Richard’s life will be held at a future date. Details will be shared with family and friends.

Posted on: Saturday, March 8, 2025My condolence to the Humpage family. Richard will be dearly missed by his friends and former work colleagues, he has left us with wonderful memories. I had the pleasure to see his train collection and it definitely was a sight to see them chugging along on the many sections of track that would run through his back yard. R.I.P Richard morning breakfasts with you will be missed.

Posted on: Sunday, March 9, 2025Rick and I go way way back. He was nice enough to help me get a job at Dashwood Doors where he worked when I was 20 yrs old. I use to invite him over for jams with Jim Chard and Jim Devries and other musicians back in the day. He was a great bass player and had a fantastic sense of humor. He even took the time to teach Wayne Parker (Glass Tiger) how to play bass guitar back in the 70’s. He would invite me over to see his massive train sets that he had set up in his back yard and tell me about his ham radio hobby (his handle was Bushwhacker). I remember spending the evening with him when his daughter Amanda was born. He was so excited and nervous!
I think I will miss his crazy laugh the most! Rick, I am so sorry that your health wasn’t the best over the last few years. I remember calling you last April and you told me that you weren’t feeling that good. But you were a strong guy and I never thought for a moment that it would take you down bud. I will always remember you Rick and how you loved life, playing music, and how much you loved your family.
Til the next jam…..John

I was lucky enough to have known Richard since the mid-80’s when we first worked together in Newmarket and most recently in Richmond Hill. His passion for his music and trains always led to some great stories. His smile, his laugh and his great sense of humour will be greatly missed. RIP Rich, 🙏

Posted on: Wednesday, March 12, 2025So sorry to hear about the passing of RichArd. We have been friends and fellow musicians since the mid to late 1960’s. Our rock band at the time was called Middle Earth and we played local gigs in newmarket, Mount Albert and Lake Simcoe. The other members were Eric Hey, Don Van Camp, Marty Cochrane and myself. RichArd, was a good musician and a strong leader who took responsibility for the discipline of our band.
When we weren’t playing music we thoroughly enjoyed being with our school friends in and around Newmarket.
It was really wonderful time.
I’m so glad that we maintained our friendship and contact over the past 56 years. He will be missed.
