Paula Anne McHugh

March 10, 1949 - December 17, 2023

Funeral Details: Private Family Arrangements

Paula (née Buckley) passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023.  Devoted wife and best friend of 57 years to David “Blair” McHugh, loving mother of Kim (Rick), Sarah (Chris) and James.  Loving grandmother (Nana) to Katie (Wesley), Meaghan, Jenna, and Matthew and great grandmother to Lucy and Oliver

Born in 1949 in Saint John, New Brunswick, she is predeceased by her father, Norman, her mother Alice (Buckley) and two of her sisters; Norma (McKinnon) and Rena (Stokes).  Paula is also survived by two sisters, Diane (Poshluk) and Sister Muriel (Buckley).

Paula was very dedicated to her faith, even being involved in teaching catechism classes at Stella Maris Parish in Saint John, NB, when her children were younger.  Blair and Paula moved to Ontario in 1984 and have resided in Barrie, an hour outside of Toronto for the past 37 years.  Christmas was a favourite time of year for Paula.  Her focus was on making lasting memories with her grandchildren; even hiring the mall Santa to come visit on Christmas Eve.

Her interests included travelling and spending summers at their trailer.  Paula is most remembered for her kindness, willingness to help others out, and her off the cuff sense of humour that her children and grandchildren will remember for years to come, always leaving them with a smile.

Many thanks to the Staff on the Kensington floor at Victoria Village, Especially Nurse Paivi and PSW Massanga for the compassion and care that they provided to Paula during the last few years of her life. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Simcoe County are appreciated.

Dear Diane and Muriel: I am so sorry to learn of Paula’s passing. I was at Mass on Christmas morning and wasn’t sure if I heard Monsignor’s announcements correctly. I decided I would check online just in case. Please accept my condolences and prayers for your family and Paula’s.
