Patrick “Pat” Gilmore Davies

March 17, 1934 - July 4, 2023

Funeral Details: Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Trinity Anglican Church (79 Victoria Street, Aurora, ON)

Pat passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at Southlake Regional Health Centre on July 5, 2023.  Pat will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Debbie (Mike) and Tracey (Paul), as well as by his grandchildren, Jane, Andrew, and Cameron.  Pat was predeceased by his partner, Marie Barton.  Pat will also be lovingly remembered by Marie’s children, Ginny, Jeff and Judy and their families.  Pat spent the later years of his life with Donna Worsley.  Pat will be fondly remembered by Donna and her family.  Pat was predeceased by parents, Charles and Isobel Davies, and his brothers, Kenyon and Dennis.

Pat was born on March 17, 1934, St. Patrick’s Day, to Charles “Charlie” and Isobel Davies at York County Hospital.  Pat, the youngest of 3 brothers, was brought home to live in their family home on Spruce Street in Aurora.  Pat attended elementary school at the Church Street School and went on to attend Aurora High School located on Wells Street.  In Grade 13, Pat and his classmates moved to the new Aurora High School located on Dunning Avenue. During his time in high school, Pat played tennis competitively.  He also played basketball, was in the band and was an active member of the student council.

After high school, Pat had various jobs until he went to work alongside his father in the family painting business, which Charlie renamed to Charles Davies and Son Painting Contractors.  Pat eventually took over the family business and ran it successfully until he sold it in the mid 1980’s. In 1962, Pat married Gayle and became the proud father of two daughters, Debbie and Tracey. Pat spent many an hour driving his daughters out to the horse farm and to horse shows. In the 1970’s, Pat purchased a Mercury Monarch that he used to love taking to antique car shows.

In the mid 1980’s, Pat got the contract to paint the Yellow Brick House in Aurora where he met Marie Barton. Pat and Marie moved to Queensville for a couple of years and then made their way to Brighton where they bought Butler Creek Inn, a bed and breakfast. Pat decided to make his hobby of making and refinishing furniture into a full-time career by opening up an antique shop, which he called Butler Creek Antiques. Many memorable Davies/Barton holiday meals filled with laughter and joy were spent around the dining room table at Butler Creek Inn over the years. During the summer, Pat enjoyed driving back and forth to Toronto countless times over the years to go see the Blue Jays play.

In the mid 1990’s, Pat and Marie moved to Picton where they could often be found sitting on the front veranda together watching the world go by until Marie’s passing in 1999. Pat stayed in Picton where he spent many years refinishing and selling antiques. He loved nothing more than to ride his lawn tractor in the summer, cutting the grass during the day and sipping his wine in the late afternoon into the evening on the front veranda. After dinner, Pat loved to watch sports of any kind. Pat also continued to drive to Toronto to see the Blue Jays play for many years.

In 2015, Pat moved to Lindsay with Donna Worsely where they lived on Mustang Drive. During their time together, Pat and Donna had many a laugh! They loved to go out for drives in the Sebring convertible and eat out at nice restaurants. Pat truly enjoyed his time in Lindsay.

In January 2019, Pat returned to Aurora where he lived with his daughter, Tracey, and her family. After a short illness, Pat went to live at Kingsway Retirement Home to recover. He came back to live with Tracey and her family in the Spring of 2020. During his time with Tracey, he spent many a sunny summer afternoon sitting out in the backyard drinking wine and listening to Whitney Houston, Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli. However, this took a backseat whenever there was a sporting event on tv! Thank goodness for cable tv because Pat was almost always able to find a live baseball, basketball or hockey game on somewhere. He also loved to watch tennis, golf and Nascar races!

In the fall of 2021, Pat moved back to Kingsway. He looked forward every morning to his daily call from Donna shortly after 9 am when she called him to say good morning. She would then call him every evening around 7 pm to fill him in on the events of the day. He also loved going to Tracey’s on Sunday evening for dinner so he could cuddle with Sadie, Oakley and Harley! When Pat would leave Kingsway for an outing and return, he always enjoyed chatting with Jacqui who worked at the front desk. Pat said talking to Jacqui always brought a smile to his face!

As Pat started to need more support during his time at Kingsway, he was ever so fortunate to have the most wonderful PSW, Wanda, assigned to help him. Wanda was ever so kind and caring in the manner in which she supported Pat right up until the end. Thank you for supporting Pat, Wanda!

Dad/Grampa/Pat, you were truly loved and will be sorely missed. Your heart was always full of love and gratitude. You never asked for much and always gave us your unconditional love in return. Along with having a beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes, you gave the best hugs ever! Until we meet again in Heaven, sleep well, my dear, sleep well.

In lieu of flowers, please kindly consider making a donation to a charity of your choice.

Pat’s Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Trinity Anglican Church located at 79 Victoria Street in Aurora. The visitation will be at 1:00 pm immediately followed by the service at 2:00 pm. After the service, there will be a reception in the Narthex adjoining the church. All are welcome to attend. I am so very saddened to hear of Uncle Pat’s passing. He was a kind and caring man who did give the very best hugs! I remember fondly as a child going to visit with my mom and dad and Uncle Pat had fish tanks in the basement at their home in Aurora. First thing we had to do the minute we arrived was ask him to see the fish. He graciously did. He was always so happy and proud to show you his antiques I remember visiting he and Marie at Butler Creek it was a lovely spot. Even though we didn’t see each other regularly I always thought of him and will continue to hold the memories I have of him close to my heart. My condolences to Tracy and Debbie and their families. Take care thinking of you ❤️

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Uncle Pat, the last of the Davies brothers. I can still see Uncle Pat and my dad, Ken and my uncle Denis standing off to the side at our family gatherings having a very serious conversation about who knows what, then the smiles and and chuckle or two . Although we were not in touch as frequently as perhaps we should have been, I will always remember Uncle Pat as being a kind man with a great smile and sense of humor to match. The brothers are together again.

Tasso and I met Pat while we were both selling at the Sherway Gardens Antique Show. We hit it off immediately and we pleased to find that we were both from the County and neighbours. We visited back and forth and both enjoyed long stories of our ‘picking’ adventures and great finds. We had a lot in common as to pine furniture, dogs, love of family, good food and wine! Pat was always ready to come to a party and the ladies from Wellington on the Lake found him charming. Pat and I became business partners when he opened his shop at his house and he loved to phone me and say bring more dishes as he called the china. I missed him when he moved to Lindsay, but we kept in touch through Facebook and email. Rest in Peace my dear friend, see you on the other side when we will still be telling stories. I’ll be expecting one of those great hugs. love, Dale
