Monica Vivienne Day passed away peacefully in the afternoon of March 19, 2025 at Age Care Long-term Care Home in Aurora, Ontario. She had recently celebrated her milestone 90th birthday.

Born in Middlesex, England on January 20, 1935 to her parents Walter & Sarah, Monica was the youngest of 6 siblings: George (Arthur), John Eric (Jack), Laurence William (Billy), Diana and Madeline Lucy (Babs). On Nov. 6, 1954 in Middlesex, she married David "Keith" Day (Leeds, England).

In 1957, Monica, Keith and their young daughter Susan began a new chapter of their lives in Niagara Falls, Canada. After the birth of their second daughter Wendy, they relocated to Toronto and raised their family. Monica eventually moved to Aurora where she resided on Centre Street for over 35 years. She had a successful career as a bookkeeper with Tetra Pak (Aurora) for many years until she retired in 1998 at age 63.

Monica enjoyed her retirement years spending much of her time with her grandchildren. Whether it be at home, at the parks, attending soccer & hockey games or any events the kids had going on, she was always there to support them and cheer them on. Monica was also proud to volunteer her bookkeeping services for 10+ years at the Aurora Food Pantry, for which she received an award from the Mayor of Aurora in recognition of her service.

She loved to be out walking and chatting with community friends and neighbours as they came by her house with their children and pups. Monica was well known and loved for her kind and friendly way, colourful hats and brollies (umbrellas) and her love of owls, cats, dogs, squirrels and most other animals too.

From a young age, a passion for ice skating and dancing was born. Years later, she enjoyed teaching ballroom dancing in the community and even taught some disco dances. Anyone remember "The Hustle"?  Other interests were cycling, golf, the silver screen movies and their stars, politics and she was an avid follower of the British Royal Family.

Monica was a loving mother to her daughters Susan Jeschke (Erwin, Bowmanville, Ont.) & Wendy Hamilton (Newmarket, Ont., (Pud, Cookstown, Ont.)) and loving Nanna to grandchildren Jocelin (pre-deceased), Asia and Rory.

Mother, mother-in-law, Nanna, friend, she will be greatly missed by all.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Newmarket, Ontario. Details will be passed along personally to the family's circle of friends and also posted on social media platforms.

We have many fond memories and shared many life milestones together. The best security system we had for our children and home.
She is missed in our neighbourhood and community and will always be thought of fondly.

Monica was such a steady presence in my life, growing up, she never missed the opportunity to celebrate our life, moments, big and small, and was always there to welcome us home after any adventures away.

Funny to think that she lived in my house longer than I did!

Sending love and condolences to the family and remembering Monica fondly ❤️

Monica was my aunt, BUT only 1 year and 11 months older than me. Madeline (Babs) was my mother and Monica’s half-sister. My happy memories are playing together in Hillingdon England, where we lived as children. During the “Battle of Britain” and at other times we played, diving into the garden shed and air raid shelter. Despite the war it was still a happy childhood. My family here in Australia were delighted Monica came and visited us. Later Fran and I were able to visit Monica and family in beautiful Canada. We extend our sincere condolences to Susan, Wendy and all Monica’s loved ones.
