Funeral Details: Private Family Arrangements

Marion “Peggy”, of Barrie, Ontario passed away peacefully at the age of 90, on Monday, July 22, 2024 at 11:03 PM, at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, from complications of congestive heart failure.  Peggy was preceded in death by her son Billy (1971), her husband Mike (2007), and her son Rick (2020).  Peggy is survived by her son Doug, her grandchildren Holly, and Brandon, and by her great-grandchildren Wyatt, and Hayden.  She lived a wonderful full life, and she will be missed.

When Peggy was 13, she got a part-time job with Fisher’s Five & Dime on Yonge Street, in Aurora (now long gone), where she was paid 13¢ an hour.  When she was 15, she got a job as a ‘soda fountain’ waitress at Del Har Grill on Church St., in Aurora (also long gone).  When she was 16, she got a job as a telephone operator at Bell Canada.  This was in 1951 and the girls, they were always girls, had to connect the calls manually on a ‘plug board.’  She fondly remembers that the operators always listened in to the calls, so they knew all the town’s gossip.  In 1957 Peggy went to work for Morgan’s Department Store in Lawrence Plaza (corner of Bathurst and Lawrence), where she sold and modeled fur coats.  She kept that job until the summer of 1958, when she was asked to leave because she was ‘showing’ with her first child.

In keeping with Peggy’s wishes, a private cremation has taken place, and no funeral or memorial service will be held.
