Funeral Details:

MURPHY, Marguerite Hunter

September 22, 1936 – July 8, 2017

“When you let go, it’s not a loss, it’s freedom”

With profound sadness we announce that Marguerite Murphy (nee Ford) passed away peacefully at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge surrounded by her family’s love.

Beloved and devoted wife to William Murphy for 56 years.  Loving mother to Greg (Lisa), Anne, Susan and Ken (Natalie).  She will be sorely missed by her precious grandchildren – Kelly, Sarah, Liam, Alison, Devin and Callum.

Born in Hanover, Ontario she was the daughter of William and Marjorie Ford (nee Little) and cherished sister to Phyllis McMichael (Glenn), Kathleen Edgar (d. Robert) and Joyce Rizzo (d. Sandy).  Family and friendships were especially important to Marguerite and she will be fondly remembered by all.

In 1956, to pursue a teaching career, Marguerite moved to Stouffville where she met her future husband Bill.  She became a long time resident and was actively involved in the community – Couples + Club, United Church and Music Mania to name a few, before moving to Gravenhurst in 2002.  She loved quilting, baking, sewing, knitting, Scottish Country Dancing and singing.

She especially enjoyed playing bridge, writing poems for birthdays and anniversaries and skiing with close friends.  We enjoyed awesome times at the shared family cottage which resulted in much laughter, singing, boating and games.

Even as her health declined, her face lit up whenever she was with her friends and family.   Her capacity for love, creativity and generosity will always be with us.  She was the sweetest person you could ever hope to meet and all those that knew her loved her.

We would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care of our dear Marguerite.

In lieu of flowers, donations to South Muskoka Hospital Foundation www.healthmuskoka.ca, The Terry Fox Foundation www.terryfox.org  or a charity of your choice are greatly appreciated.

The family invites you to a Celebration of Life at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Trinity United Church, Gravenhurst followed by social gathering at Hahne Hall (16 Hedgewood Lane, Gravenhurst).  Messages of condolence can be left at www.peacefultransition.ca
