Marguerite Hazel Beeswanger (nee Delourghy)

January 9, 1930 - December 13, 2024

Funeral Details:

Marguerite Hazel Beeswanger (nee Delourghy), aged 94, passed away peacefully on 13 Dec, in Barrie, ON

She was born in Halifax, NS, the daughter of John Delourghy, a CN engineer, and his wife Jessie (McTavish), a seamstress. The family, including her predeceased sister Dorothy, lived in Point Tupper, New Glasgow, Sydney and Truro, NS. A proud graduate of Mt Alison University, NB, Marguerite moved to Toronto to take advantage of the opportunities the city had to offer, working for Proctor and Gamble as a book keeper.

Within a short time, her high school sweetheart, Jack Beeswanger, followed her to Toronto where they soon married and started a family. They lived in Brampton, Palgrave then Newmarket until Jack's early passing in 1993. Marguerite did the books for the family business and was a devoted mom to three children. She worked hard to foster strong family values. She spent her senior years in Barrie, close to some of the family and she loved visiting family in California. She developed many good friendships in Barrie through activities at Parkview and Allandale.

Marguerite enjoyed golf, theatre, music, dancing, cross country skiing, reading, knitting, travelling, volunteering with the Red Cross and she was a passionate bridge player for most of her life. She loved technology, delighting in figuring out how to use the latest. Family get togethers, which usually included spirited political discussions and lots of one liners and laughs, were always a highlight for her. She did love to laugh and could be counted on to add a quip or play on words, to her last days. Adored by her six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, she loving being part of their lives. Marguerite was a much-loved Central Command of the family, ensuring everyone was up to date on any family news.

Marguerite was resilient and strong, recovering from a heart attack and three bouts of cancer., along with numerous other health challenges as the years went by. We take comfort in knowing she had a full, long life but we will so miss sharing our lives with her, always with some laughs.

Laugh and the World Laughs with You

Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Karen Haley (Blaine), sons David Beeswanger(Cecilie) and Glenn Beeswanger(Tara), Grandchildren Jessica (Peter), Vanessa, Sarah, Matthew, Samantha, and Soleila. Great grandchildren Everly and Chloe, Nephew, David Raymond (Meaghan) and niece Brenda Harvey (Bruce).

To thine own self be true - these immortal words from Shakespeare's Hamlet perfectly captured the essence of what Marguerite wanted for those who survived her - to live life with unwavering authenticity.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Peaceful Transition and cremation has taken place. A private family celebration will be held in the near future. Memorial donations can be made to the Barrie Food Bank https://www.barriefoodbank.org/donate/ or Red Cross https://www.redcross.ca/ways-to-donate/other-ways-to-donate
