With much love and heavy hearts, we announce that Madge Wood (née Pearce), our beautiful Wife and Mum, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 2, 2025.
Madge was a devoted Wife to Donald (Don) Wood, dear Mother to Heather and her husband Eric, Jennifer and her husband Lonnie, dear Grandmother to David & Kaitlyn, dear Twin Sister to Rosemary and her husband George, dear Sister-in-law to Laurie and his wife Marie, dear Aunt to Glenn (Natka) & Diana (Matt), Darren (Stacey) & Ryan, dear Great Aunt to Emma & Lauren, Emerson, Xander & Rylyn and fondly known as Gramma Madge to Hannah & Lindsay (TK) & Jordan (Macey), Ruby & Hank, Henry and Eric. She was also dear daughter to George and Madge Pearce (predeceased).
Madge’s care, commitment and passion had a significant impact on her many communities:
Her main focus and dedication were to her Family and Friends, with the unwavering support of her 1-800-DONALD alongside her, to serve others.
She was the heart of Honourable Earl Rowe Public School for over 30 years, in an incredibly special and fulfilling leadership role as School Secretary. She was highly valued for her ability to empathize, support, advocate and get stuff done! She was never too busy to give a band-aid, a hug, words of encouragement, or share a hearty laugh with any student, parent or staff that needed it, not to mention her mischievous spirit!
Her many years of service for Girl Guides Canada gave her great joy, including her time as Brown Owl of her local guiding group, and her influential role as Commissioner of Silver Birch Area. She was a leader, teacher and advocate, and her achievements in these roles impacted the lives of thousands of young girls and women. From weekly meetings to the Girl Guide Camps to the Cookie campaigns, to the community service projects and ultimately organizing a European tour culminating in a garden party with Queen Elizabeth II.
She had a love of quilting, canning and pickling, which she often shared as gifts, cherished by family and friends. She spent countless hours watching curling and golf and initiating a lively game of euchre with all of us!
She adored and found solace in the natural world…. from birds & flowers to lakes & mountains. Madge also had a passion for her dogs and was mother to many dear fur babies over the years.
She had a compassion and a tenacity that her beloved family and friends relied on. Her strength and guidance will be missed every day.
Rest in peace Mum. We love you and your love and passion are forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please honour Madge by donating to your local Hospice or Humane Society.
A Celebration of Madge’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 11am to 3pm at St. John’s Presbyterian Church Hall - 2940 10 Sideroad, Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Posted on: Thursday, January 9, 2025I am so sorry to hear about Madge’s passing. I have many many memories of Madge and Rosemary as they lived directly behind us. They were on Owen Street and we were on Peel St. We all grew up together. Their mom and dad had beautiful flower gardens where we often played and then climbed over the fence to get home. Back in the day, we all walked to Hillcrest School and walked home for lunch every day. I met Rosemary one day in Barrie many years ago and I do remember her telling me that Madge was a school secretary near Bradford. Reading her obituary, I see that she had a love for children even beyond all those she cared for at school. She had a full life and dedicated her time and energy to helping others. Her family can be so proud of all that she accomplished. I extend my condolences to all of you. Judy (Siddall) Trumbley

Posted on: Thursday, January 9, 2025The lovely photo of Madge is exactly how I remember her. I knew Madge through our association with Girl Guides of Canada. We both served on the Ontario Provincial Council, Madge as Commissioner for Silver Birch Area and I as the Deputy Provincial Commissioner. Madge was certainly all the good things mentioned in her obituary. She was very well organized, but also added fun and caring to everything she did. I send my deepest sympathy to Madge’s family and especially remember her sister, Rosemary. Having twins in my own family, I know the incredible bond they shared.

Posted on: Friday, January 10, 2025Our children started their school careers at a magical place called Honorable Earl Rowe PS where a wonderful Principal named Geoff Mulholland greeted each child by name as they got off the school bus. If that wasn’t special enough, they also got a special smile from Mrs Wood as they passed the office. Madge was the one who sewed up a rip in a little girl’s pants and the one to console a little boy who slipped on the ice and bumped his head. She would call to ask if I could volunteer to cook a turkey for the school Thanksgiving luncheon. She would call Mike to see when he was free to chaperone a field trip to Scanlon Creek or the Tiffin Centre. She was the hub of the school community. She went over and above and was the example for all of us school secretaries to aspire to. Thank you for sharing her with us – we have been blessed by knowing her.

Posted on: Saturday, January 11, 2025Sincere condolences Don and families, and Rosemary, George and families. I was shocked to read of Madge’s passing. Had a nice chat with her at Irene Button’s funeral last year. Many years ago, during the ’60s, we enjoyed many events, and all these years later, the twins still had us getting them mixed up. Know you will be missed, especially by twin sis.

Posted on: Sunday, January 12, 2025So sorry to hear about Madge’s passing.
I have so many fond memories of Madge especially associated with the school. She had a very special rapport with the students, staff, and parents She efficiently ran the office as well as the whole school building. She truly was the “heart” of the school.
We also had a special connection outside of the school. Vacations, lunches, pickling weekends etc.
She helped us through some very difficult times. She was always there for us.
She will be missed.
