Funeral Details: Private Family Arrangements

Lynda Rhoda Zariwny in her 83rd year passed away at Mill Creek Care Centre, Barrie Ontario on Sunday March 30, 2025 of Alzheimer’s disease.

Born September 15,1942 in Toronto to Sydney and Lorraine, she lived in Oshawa and later settled in Barrie to raise her family.  Lynda always kept busy; she raised four busy boys, created beautiful weavings that she sold at craft fairs all over Ontario and spent weekends with friends and their children on the local ski hills as part of the Ski Club.  A lifelong friendship was made when she met neighbour Donna, even though her cookies came out of the oven.  She provided Administration for Dr. Porter and finished her career at Georgian College starting in Administration and eventually becoming a Disability Specialist.  She enjoyed helping students and the friendships she made with co-workers while at Georgian.

Loving wife of Bill, her husband of 56 years.  They travelled together in retirement visiting places such Costa Rica, Hawaii and completing cross-country tours of Canada and the United States.  Lynda planned and served as navigator on their road trips finding hidden gems like the Corn Palace in South Dakota.  Mother to Christopher (Molly) of Barrie Ontario, Richard (Theresa) of Barrie Ontario, Jason (Lesley) of Red Deer Alberta. She was pre-deceased by her parents, and son David.  Lynda enjoyed spending time with her 10 Grandchildren: Aneleis, Matthew, Noah, Hailey, Zachary, Nathan, Sarah, Natalie, Samantha, and Keira.  She enjoyed planning outings and trips to make memories with her grandchildren.

A private interment will be held by the family in Barrie Ontario.  Memorial donations are welcome at Mill Creek Care Centre 286 Hurst Drive, Barrie ON and the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.

Lynda and I worked together in a Drs office years ago. She was an amazing fun loving person
And a pleasure to work with . As often happens you don’t keep in touch after your workplace friendship ends. I didn’t realize she was 10 years older than me because she was so young at heart. I am sorry to hear she suffered from Alzheimer’s..I am sorry your family and friends had to lose such a vibrant lady to such a horrible disease i am however she is now free and in her ” happy place”. .Please accept my heartfelt condolences I am truly sorry for your loss. . I am so sorry to hear of Lynda’s passing. She was a very special person as my colleague and friend. Many conversations involved Lynda giving me tips of the parenting trade and it was very obvious how much she enjoyed being a mom to her boys, a mother-in-law to their wives and later a grandmother. She had a kind and thoughtful approach when working with her students and made a lasting impression. May Bill and the family find comfort in their happiest memories of Lynda.

My thoughts and prayers are with Bill and family. Knew Lynda and Bill as neighbors and customers. We enjoyed main chats when they bottled wine with me and my late husband. I still have their work bench when they moved from their house into the condo. Lynda was always smiling. RIP

Lynda was a dear colleague in my first post at Georgian College many years ago. I was a nervous new boy in town at that time, and she was so good at encouraging me not to take myself so seriously! Lynda was a role model and and a friend to everyone in the department. I know that I, along with everyone who worked with her, am saddened by this loss. May she rest in peace! Thanks for getting me to laugh, Lynda! I bet everyone in heaven is in stitches right now. God bless Lynda’s family at this difficult time.

I’d like to extend our deepest condolences to Lynda’s family and loved ones.
Lynda was a good friend and co-worker of our Mom’s. Her beautiful soul will be fondly remembered for the kindness she exuded in her role at Georgian College and in the friendship bestowed with our Mom.
