It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Joseph Charles White on August 17, 2015. Joe was born to Joseph Cleveland and Edith Parker White in Toronto, Ontario, August 14, 1922.
As a Toronto native, he became an alumnus of the University of Toronto in 1944 with a degree in Commerce and Finance followed by his certification as a Chartered Accountant. During the war, while in university, he trained as a Mosquito Bomber pilot and served with the Signal Corps. Upon completion of university he married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Vipond and they set up house in Brantford, Ontario.
Shortly after he was married the newlyweds invested in cottage property in Muskoka at Prospect Lake. This was to be one of his favourite places.
He loved all types of sports and excelled at several. As an avid tennis player he was a long time member of Brantford’s Golf and Country Club.
He was an active member of the community including being a member of PROBUS, involved in the community of St. Andrew’s United Church and the friends’ birthday club kept him very active socially.
But the love of his life was his family. He was a solid supporter of education and bestowed his grandchildren with bursaries ensuring their educational future and a solid legacy. His great grand children were a particular joy to him as they gathered for monthly visits; the last only 3 days before his passing at his 93rd birthday. He was greatly loved and will be sadly missed.
He was predeceased by daughter Nancy and wife Evelyn.
He is survived by his children Ron (Shirley) White of Sooke, B.C.; Rick (Lyn) White of Midland, On.; Jo-Anne (Greg) Tingey of Gravenhurst, On., 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who to referred to him as great Uncle Joe.
The family would like to thank the staff at Granite Ridge for all their support.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church in Brantford Ontario on Tuesday Sept. 01, 2015 at 11:30 pm. Lunch to follow.
