Passed away peacefully in his 90th year on March 12, 2025 at the RVRHC. Beloved husband of Patricia “Pat” for almost 66 years. Loving father of Allen (Shannon), Lisa (Duane), and Christopher (Mylene), and he will also be missed by Heather and her family. He was a very devoted and hands on grandfather of Kyle, Jessie, and Eric.
John was a hardworking man who remained active in his career until his 76th year. He began working at just 16 years old with his dad and was the very proud owner of Day Cartage.
Faith was an important part of John's life. He was active in the church for many years. In his retirement, John rekindled his passion for music and found joy and purpose in playing the piano.
A service to celebrate John's life will be held at Westside Lutheran Church, 510 Ferndale Dr. N., Barrie on Thursday March 20 at 2pm with visitation at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada (705-722-1066) and the VON (705-737-5044).
Online memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.peacefultransition.ca.

Posted on: Tuesday, March 18, 2025Dear Pat and Family
It was my great pleasure to spend time with John on Pat’s “ballet days”.
He told me many wonderful, funny and heart warming stories about his childhood, his loving family, his mischievous adventures and of course his great love for Pat, his children and extended family. It seems he hoodwinked some other suitors in order to have his chance to court young Pat!
John impressed me with his many talents. He played hockey and piano, he enjoyed art and drawing and let’s not forget he was a skilled truck driver all his life! The seminary should gave snapped him up when they had the chance, but he felt secure in the belief that God needed a truck driver more!
John was very proud of his children. Of Allen, who is so smart and accomplished, of Chris, who made him a better father and of Lisa, who as the daughter, held a special place in his heart. It was also his great privilege to have Heather as part of the family.
I am certain that John believed he lived a blessed life. He was a gentleman.
He was always cagey about his age. Now I know that he was 90 years old.! A life well lived.
