It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joerg (Jörg) Petzold at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie on Saturday March 15, 2025 at the age of 88.

He was born 1936, in Rudolstadt Germany to his late parents, Fritz and Alice Petzold. Unfortunately, his father would pass away 9 years later, leaving Alice to raise her son and two daughters, with help from her sisters. Alice would never re-marry.

Loving Papa/Pa to his sons, Eric Petzold (Kimberly) and Niels Petzold. He leaves behind his devoted partner of almost 4 decades, Erika Craig. Stepfather to Stephanie O’Brien (William), Michael Craig (Michelle) Beloved brother to Gritta (nee Petzold) Pohl (the late Neil), predeceased by his eldest sister Lorle (nee Petzold) Mantik (late Edmund). Cherished Opa to Britny, Cortny, Ashley, Dustan, Mya, Julian, Madeline, Liam, Brooklyn, and Mason. Adored by his nephews Olaf and Heiko Mantik, and his niece Tanja (nee Pohl) Stanko. He will most certainly be missed by family and friends both here, and back home in Germany.

Jörg was known for his kindness, humour and generosity. He was a man of many talents, very skilled with his hands, and was capable of repairing just about anything, as well as creating some wonderful paintings. He enjoyed travelling and vacationed around the world, including numerous trips back home to Germany. He was very proud of his German heritage, which was reflected in his daily life and of course, his wonderful cooking.

He was also known for his love of the outdoors. Nothing made him smile more than to be fishing from the canoe, listening to the haunting cries of loons echoing across the lake, sitting around a roaring fire at night or enjoying that first cup of coffee in the morning while watching the sun slowly burn off the mist hovering over the water. This love of the outdoors was instilled upon his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who continue those traditions.

It was very sad to hear of Joergs passing.
I was fortunate enough to be a neighbor of Joerg and Erika for 12 years and proud to be a friend for 24 years. We met while moving into our new homes on Loyalist court. We spent many days and evenings chatting over a glass of wine. Exchanging stories about our travels. We learned a lot about places to go from Joerg and Erika.
Joerg always talked very proudly of his family. I enjoyed listening to his life story and how he came to Canada.
Joerg was a wonderful neighbor, always willing to help with anything.
Joerg and Erika had a beautiful relationship, one I inspired to have.

    Happy fishing Joerg.

I believe it has been 38 years that Joerg has been part of our family. Joerg has been a wonderful, devoted partner to my Mom, he has been a tremendous stepdad and great influence to myself and my sister, and he has been a loving and caring Opa to our children.

So many stories and memories to share and hold onto. We are grateful we had a beautiful Christmas together a short time ago. As he began slowing down, he was back and forth to the hospital and in my last visit he was in good spirits and when I left I kissed him on the head, told him I loved him and to make sure the doctors fix him before they tried sending him back home. I believe they did all that they could, and now it was his time to rest.

We will remember Joerg always, whenever we see a cardinal, a blue jay or any birds soring especially over a body of water. Be at peace with nature. Love you
