IN MEMORY OF
JOAN EDITH BARKER
(NEE MAIDLOW)
Obituary for Joan Edith Barker
(October 17, 1934 – August 27, 2015)
Joan, Jo, Joanie, Mom and Nana. All of these were titles given to one incredible woman. After suffering a massive stroke last week, Joan passed away peacefully in Royal Victoria Hospital on Thursday, August 27, 2015. Joan was predeceased by the love of her life Fred (Ted), aka Teddy Bear. Beloved mother of Stephen (Susan), James (Lisa) and Lynn (Gregory). Cherished nana of James, Kimberley, Christopher (Angela), Alisha, Tabitha, Joshua, Jacob and Tyler. Recently earning her title as great grandmother to Benjamin.
Joan was an active member of the Allandale Seniors Center and could be found playing carpet bowling or cribbage at the center with all her friends. Saturdays were reserved for a fun afternoon or wine, cheese and an intense game of dominoes in her dining room along side her best friend and companion of the several years Robert (Bob) Godfrey.
I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free;
I took His hand when I heard Him call;
I turned my back and left it all.
If my parting has left a void;
then fill it with remembered joy.
My life’s been full, I savored much;
good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;
ah yes, these things, I too, will miss.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me;
God wanted me now, He set me free.
AMEN.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation www.heartandstroke.on.ca would be greatly appreciated.

We were touched by your expressions of sympathy for the loss of Dad, and surprised to hear of the passing of Auntie Joan. You picked such a good picture, she looks just like I remember her from my childhood-a tiny lady with a big spirit! We wish you blessings and comfort in the knowledge that your Mom is in a good place.
