James William Thomson

July 31, 1940 - November 12, 2018

Funeral Details: Saturday, December 8, 2018 Ferndale Banquet Hall

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James William Thomson (Jim) at the age of 78.

Jim lost his difficult battle with cancer true to his usual fashion of incredible bravery and steadfast strength.   He passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie surrounded by loved ones on November 12th, 2018.

Jim was born in Sudbury Ontario on July 31st 1940.  Early on, his family moved to Toronto where they remained for several years before settling in Barrie in 1973.

Professionally, Jim safely navigated thousands of miles of highway for more than 27 years while driving for Molson’s brewery. In 1985 he captured the title of “Economy Challenge Champion of Ontario.” Following his retirement in late 2000 Jim enjoyed several trips, time with friends and family and countless laughs.  He enjoyed watching a variety of sports, especially hockey and baseball, and was quick to offer detailed statistics, commentary and fun facts about either. He also enjoyed hunting and gourmet cooking.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Levonne (Bonnie) Mitchell-Thomson, son Todd (Darlene) Thomson, daughter Leanne (Gary) Leonard and stepsons Glenn and Jerry Mitchell. He was the proud Grandfather of Bailey Thomson, Jordan and Jessey Leonard, Taylor and Jeremy Mitchell and Great Grandchild, Freya Mitchell.

Jim is predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday December the 8th 2018 at the Ferndale Banquet Hall, 24 Ferndale Industrial Drive in Barrie from 12:00-3:00 pm.

Special thanks to the truly gifted and caring Doctors and Nurses at the Royal Victoria Hospital Cancer Care Centre who made such an immeasurable difference to all.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to a charity of your choice in Jim’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
