James “Jim” Gordon Stewart

October 11th, 1967 - January 22nd, 2025

Funeral Details: February 8th, 2025 | Allandale Recreation Centre - Main Hall (190 Bayview Dr, Barrie, ON L4N 4Y8) | 1:00pm - 4:00pm & 6:00pm - 8:00pm

STEWART, JAMES “JIM” GORDON passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his lakeside home on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025 at the age of 57.

Jim is survived by his devoted mother, Mary (nee Hill), sister, Teri (Gordon), three loving children, Alyssa, Dalton, and Clayton Stewart, and two adoring grandsons, Chase and Dallas. He was predeceased by his father, Richard Stewart.

Coached by his father, in his hometown of Oakville, Ontario, Jim’s love for hockey took hold before he could tie his own skates. A proud goalie and admirable sportsman, Jim’s compassion, integrity, and dedication were characteristics that defined him on and off the ice. Long after starting his own family in Barrie, Ontario, Jim honoured his father’s legacy and love for the sport by coaching his own sons’ hockey teams through their childhoods, along with countless local youth teams to follow.

Outside the rink, Jim’s love for his family and friends still shines brightly through the memories he captured in his photography and the quality time spent on and by the water at his Lake Dalrymple home, often with his spirited dog, Molly, at his side.

A celebration of life will be held in the Main Hall at the Allandale Recreation Centre on February 8th at 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Donations in memory of Jim may be made to Easter Seals Canada and Heart and Stroke.

Memories and messages of condolence may be left below.

My deepest heartfelt condolences to Jim’s family.
In grade school, St. James Elementary in Oakville, ‘Jimmy’ and I were in some of the same classes. One day, as little kids he invited me over to his house after school to pick a kitten to take home (some years later, maybe a puppy, too.) I remember him talking tenderly about his sister and his family and just how kind he was in general. His compassion really stood out and stayed in my heart. Last year unexpectedly I had the gift to see him again 50 years later at the Perdue High School reunion.
He was still the same kind person. You are greatly missed, Jim.
