Jack D. Emms

March 18, 1933 - November 28, 2024

Funeral Details: A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date in the Spring

Jack Drury Emms passed away peacefully with his children at his side, November 28th, 2024.  Born on March 18th, 1933, in Oro Township.  He married the love of his life, Olive Georgina Harradine (Nancy) on the 16th of March 1956 in Barrie.

Jack worked at several jobs including Barrie Tannery, Bread Delivery and window installer before going back to school to become a Master Electrician.  A member of the International Brotherhood of Electricians he worked throughout Ontario and the Northern Untied States.  He was a resolute father and husband who loved the outdoors, spending years camping and eventually building a camp on Wawashkesh Lake that created treasured memories that will live forever.

He was immensely proud of his three children; Stephen Emms (Dorothy), Danny Emms and Linda Marley (Wayne), his seven grandchildren; Jessica Brown (Porter), Brittaney Emms-Richards (Luke), Lucas Emms (Molly), Julia Gibbons (Luke), Jennifer Sollory (Jordan), Cory Marley (Candice), and Dana Marley (Rob Van Ballegooijen).  Jack adored his eleven great grandchildren:  Adeline Richards, Lilah Richards, Ellery Brown, Claria Brown, Lennox Brown, Cloe Marley Emms, Grayson Marley Emms, Holland Gibbons, Hadlee Myles, Brodie Myles and Lenora Van Ballegooijen.

Jack was predeceased by his father Edwin and mother Olive (Drury), his eleven siblings:  Joan, Hilda (Cockburn), Dalton, Kenneth, Velva (Sutton), Arla (Davis), Delbert, Joe, Everett, and Ross.  He is survived by his dear brother Carl.

He was known as a quiet, stoic man who became valued friends of the many individuals he met through his work as an electrician and his involvement in local sports and community.  A devoted family man, one could not have asked for a better person as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jack will be missed forever, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew him.

Our family would like to humbly thank all those who supported us these last few months and weeks, especially Dr. Catherine Monnin, The Palliative Team, Bayshore Nursing and Hospice Simcoe for their excellent care.

A Celebration of his Life will be held in the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Simcoe would be appreciated.

Jack was kind, and generous of spirit. Jack had a quiet witty sense of humour. You could see and feel how deeply he loved his wife and family. I always felt welcomed in his home. He and Nancy treated me like one of their kids. He was a father figure to me when I didn’t have one and I will forever be grateful for that kindness. My deepest sympathy to all the family for your loss of your dear husband, treasured father, grandfather and great grandfather. Rest in peace dear Jack, until we meet again. Annette Power

We were neighbours on Innisfil Street. Jack and my dad could often be heard talking over the hedge between our homes. Jack had a great sense of humour. My sincere condolences to Danny, Linda, Stephen and Nancy and families.

Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to Nancy, Stephen, Danny, Linda and all of Jack’s family on the passing of their Patriarch. Jack and I started our apprenticeships in the electrical trade at roughly the same time. You could not ask for a better person to befriend or work with. Jack spoke so highly of his family, especially in our last few conversations, he would say that Nancy and him had no worries because the kids were taking care of everything. We put on many miles together while travelling on the road when work was scarce. In all the years I never heard a bad work said about Jack. To many of his working Brothers with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Jack was known as “The Coach” since he played hockey for many years with the LU 1739 hockey team. God bless and RIP Br. Jack, you were one of the best.
