Hugh Robert Colby, 88, of Barrie, Ontario passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.
Hugh was born July 23, 1928 in Chatham, Ontario. He was a talented athlete who mastered many sports but his first love was playing baseball. Hugh turned down a career in pro ball to attend The University of Western Ontario and after to marry his love, Margery in 1954.
The happy couple travelled throughout Ontario as Hugh advanced his career in management with Simpsons-Sears. Hugh and Margery were excellent parents to Lisa and Cynthia (Sean MacAllindon) and were very active and loving grandparents to Matthew (Ellen), Rebecca and Jeffrey (Ryan) Perrin and to Harrison and Jack Levy.
Hugh was a philosopher who had words of wisdom to share. He was supportive of anyone who needed his time, skills and energy. He believed if you tried hard enough, you could achieve anything.
Cremation has taken place through Peaceful Transition. At a later date there will be a gathering of family and friends who wish to share their memories of this much loved man who valued his family above all else.

Posted on: Saturday, February 25, 2017It is with great sadness that I learn of Hugh’s passing. I had the good fortune to work for Hugh at Sears in Barrie in the 1970s. Hugh was a terrific leader who always encouraged me to do my best. He was a great sportsman we did some fishing together as well, always with some great stories. My condolences to the family. Have great memories of Hugh! Have been on fishing trips with him and played golf with him and Marge. Was never able to beat him in golf but Marge and I were competitive. Loved having a glass of wine with Hugh and Marge and chatting about everything in general. A really great guy with a mischievous sense of humour. Will miss you Buddy!
Condolences to the family and a favourite sister.
