Funeral Details:

Ness, Gordon James (Sir Gordo)

Gord passed away peacefully with family by his side, on July 5, 2015 at Hospice Simcoe in his 79th year.

Beloved husband of 49 years to Elaine (nee Hill).  Loved and adored by his children Cheryl Desbarres (Wayne) and Jody Hewitt (Shane).  Loving and cherished poppa/pops of Katelyn Mortelliti (Michael), Bailee Hewitt, Quintin and Cole Desbarres.  Proud great grandfather of Leah Mortelliti.

Brother of Ken Ness (Estelle), Peggy Sarazin, Carole Elsdon (Stan).  Brother-in-law of Norma Cormier (Keith). Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Charles and Edith Ness, brother-in-law Bob Sarazin, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Thomas Dunlop.

Gord had three passions in life - his family, his work and sports.  He was a devoted employee of Shoppers Drug Mart for 43 years.  He spent countless hours bowling and enjoying his beloved Jays and Leafs games.  Gord could always be found in the stands watching and cheering for his grandchildren in all their sporting activities.

A Celebration of Gord’s Life will be held on Sunday July 26th from 12 pm to 4 pm at the Ferndale Banquet Hall, 24 Ferndale Industrial Dr, Barrie, ON L4N 9V6.  Private family burial to follow at a later date.

Special Thank You to Dr. Brian Morris, CCAC, Bayshore Home Health and the incredible staff and volunteers of Hospice Simcoe.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gord’s memory to Hospice Simcoe www.hospicesimcoe.ca, would be greatly appreciated by the family.

My heartfelt condolences  to Gord’s family.  I was 15 when I started at Shopper’s in the Wellington Plaza under Chris Mitchell’s ownership.  Gord was like a Dad to all of us and taught me the true meaning of good work ethics and customer service.  A true gentleman who always spoke of his family with pride.  This is very sad news and he will always be fondly remembered.

To our family, Gord was always affectionately known as “Daddy Dord”, thanks to the generosity of Gord and Elaine during the illness of our middle daughter many years ago and this support will never be forgotten.

We will so miss you Gord but we know that you has moved to a more peaceful place than you have been over the last few months and for that we are thankful.

Elaine, we are here for you, always.  We know you know that.  Cheryl, Jody, our thoughts are with you and your families and are happy in the knowledge that you have wonderful husbands and children to surround you and that you have always been and will always be there to give support and love to your Mom.

Ed has lost a very dear friend whom he shared many a walk and talk with.  That friendship will be remembered forever.

    Friends forever, Ed and Jane.

I was deeply saddened to read of the death of Gord..I remember very well how he always volunteered along with Elaine with many school activities with such cheerful spirits..their wonderful girls reflected that spirit..Gord was simply one of the most beautiful human beings I ever had the privilege of knowing. He was such a gift to those who had the privilege of knowing him..I shall always remember him and his wonderful family too…Heaven is his now, and may God bless his family always..My deep condolences to each of them….Gerry Padfield  (formerly St. Mary’s)
