Gerry MacDonald, a great husband, father, friend, fishing pal, golf companion, biker, family man and all-around wonderful guy, passed peacefully, Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Hospice Simcoe, surrounded by family.
True to his nature, Gerry faced his illness with resilience and grace, meeting every day with a smile and positive energy, and never a word of complaint.
Known to enjoy a game of cards or two, he was happy to beat his son and long time friend Donnie at a game of Cribbage just 3 days before his passing.
Gerry will be missed profoundly by his wife Helen, sons Jay and Brett, daughters-in-law Michelle and Jen, daughters Leanne and Jennifer, and sons-in-law Ian and Don. Grandpa Gerry was such a positive influence and inspiration to Mason, Alec, Colby, Lanna, Sam, Casey, Charlie, Riley, and Alex.
He will also be missed by his sister Myrtle Marie, brother Jim, sister-in-law Darla, nieces Laurie and Jacqui and their families.
Gerry had a successful career working alongside his business partner and friend Mike for many years. They will be happy to be together again.
Taken far too soon, Gerry’s warmth and laughter touched countless lives. Friends and family alike will feel his absence in every pub, poker game and football pool.
A Thank you is extended to everyone who has shown Gerry and his family their love and support. It is very evident how cherished he was by so many. The Family would also like to extend their gratitude to staff at RVH, Princess Margaret and Hospice Simcoe who showed dedication and compassion throughout Gerry’s journey.
A Mass in his honour will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (65 Amelia St, Barrie, ON) on November 8, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
A Celebration of Life will also be held on November 9, 2024 at his favourite gathering place, The Bull & Barrel (901-75 Cedar Pointe Dr, Barrie, ON), from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Those attending the Celebration of Life at the Bull & Barrel are encouraged to wear casual clothing that represents Gerry’s spirit - Harley Davidson, Toronto Maple Leafs or Molson Canadian, in his honor.
Donations to Hospice Simcoe would be appreciated.
