It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Ann Rush, 61, of Cayuga, Ontario, on November 17, 2024. With her family at her side, Liz slipped away peacefully after a long illness.

Liz was born on September 21, 1963, to Thomas and Sheila Rush, in Hamilton, Ontario. She was a resident of the Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf, in North York, and enjoyed enriching her life with travel excursions to tropical climates, Marine Land and Toronto’s popular destinations - especially if they had funnel cake. Liz’s favourite times were the events she got to share with her much-loved family.

Loving sister to Wendy Hibbard (Tom), Tom and Mary. Dear aunt to Joanne, Elissa, Christine Gentile (Rich), Amelia James (Adam), Ryan, Kyle and great aunt to Laura, Wyatt, Claire and Sloane.

Liz is predeceased by her brother Vincent, mother Sheila, and her father Thomas Rush.

A special thank you for the exemplary care given to her by Sunnybrook Hospital’s Palliative Care Team, the exceptional support she received at the Bob Rumball Centre for over 40 years, and finally to Kyle, Liz’s beloved nephew, for creating many cherished memories with her.

Two services are planned. First, a Celebration of Life will be held at BRCCED Chapel (Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf), 2395 Bayview Ave., North York on November 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.. Then a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Stephen’s Catholic Church in Cayuga, 21 Ottawa St. S., Cayuga, on December 4, 2024 at 10:30 a.m..

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bob Rumball Foundation, an organization that gave Liz her home away from home.

A poem by Sara Rian

find me there.
where sunsets glow
but it never gets dark.
where pain doesn’t exist
and comfort is always felt.
where everything you’ve ever loved
finds its way back to you in the end.
the place you went to when
your heart fell asleep.
my time will come
to see you again
and you can
find me
there.

My deepest sympathy to all the Rush family on the passing of my cousin Elizabeth.
I met Liz a couple of times when I visited Auntie Sheila and Uncle Tommy in Cayuga, on two of these trips I was accompanied by Uncle Francy. I have wonderful memories of time spent with the Rush family and extended families.
    Rest in peace dear Elizabeth.
Much love, cousin Elizabeth in Galway ♥️🙏

I remember Lizzie as a very young child when I was close friends with the Rush children and, as teenagers, in Cayuga.
Elizabeth was beloved by her parents and siblings and her “home away from home” deeply appreciated.
Tom and Sheila (they never wanted me to Mr and Mrs them) and Vincent, a gentle person in his youth, will have a welcome reunion.

May Wendy, Tom, Tom and Mary and their families be consoled in their grief.
