Passed away suddenly on April 6, 2024, at the age of 79 years.  Daughter of the late John and Margaret MacCormack.  Loving mother of Lisa (Victor), and Greg (Syla).  Proud Gramma Betty to Baylie, Abby, Jack, Maya, and Joshua who were the lights of her life.  Sister of Mary Margaret (Al), Elaine (Matt, deceased), Joan (Dan), Paul (Linda), and Monica.  She will also be dearly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Betty was pre-deceased by "PapaDon”.

Betty was a proud alumna of Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, graduating in 1965.  Her lifelong commitment to education began in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, but the bulk of her career was spent teaching in Barrie, Ontario at St. John Vianney and St. Mary’s Schools.  Her passion for helping others extended beyond the classroom through her years of involvement in the school breakfast club, volunteering with Telecare, Meals on Wheels and the Barrie Blood Bank.

Among her joys in life, Betty looked forward to online bridge sessions through the Barrie Bridge Club several times a week and relished Friday night dinners with her close friends.  Anyone who knew her knew of her love of chocolate, fudge and most recently, Tim Horton’s iced capps.

A funeral mass followed by a reception in the church hall will take place at St. John Vianney Parish in Barrie on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

In honour of Betty's memory, the family kindly requests that those fortunate to still have their mothers with them share an ice capp in her memory, a gesture that reflects her love for simple pleasures and cherished moments with loved ones.

I had the privilege of working with Betty at St. Mary’s many years ago. She was a wonderful teacher, friend and mentor. Betty and Don drove down to Windsor to attend our wedding. So many good memories shared. Rest In Peace, Betty!

    Lisa, Greg & families…

Deepest condolences to all of you from me & Ralph. Betty Anne & I go back a long way! We met at Mount Saint Vincent & I have many fond memories of those days! Betty Anne was a “dayhop” & I lived in residence. As a result, I spent a lot of time at the MacCormack’s! She was my maid of honour at my wedding! As the years went by we saw one another at our Mount reunions, exchanged Christmas cards & talked once in a while on the phone. May your memories comfort you at this sad time. Happy Birthday in heaven, Betty Anne!

Sincere sympathy to all the family. I will cherish my memories of Betty Anne, especially from our university years together. She was part of our group of friends that still remain friends sixty years later. During those years John referred to Betty Anne as “the wholesome one”, due to her beautiful complexion of rosy cheeks and fair hair. May the memories you hold dear, help to comfort you at this time.

My sincere condolence on your mother’s passing Greg(Syly) and Lisa (Vic) and the grandchildren. She will be greatly missed but know she loved you all very much. I knew Betty when she did some Long Term Occasional Supply work at St. John Vianney and overtime we became great friends. When I retired we would often(at least once a week) go out for a coffee and muffin run at MacDonalds and go out with our own group of 7 of us called the Hug a Mugs once a month at Tim Horton’s. Rest in Peace, Betty!

My condolences to family and friends of Betty. I first met Betty when I joined the executive of RTO (Retired Teachers of Ontario) Unit 1. She was secretary and did a lot of work preparing for the twice annual dinners. She gained the respect and affection of all who worked with her. Eventually she had to leave that position, and she was missed greatly. Many of us keep her fondly in our memories and lovingly in our hears.
I hope that I have carried the message for all of her RTO colleagues. George

    Dear MacMillan Family,
My sincerest condolences on losing an amazing mother, grandma and a lifelong teacher of many children! I am one of the many children Betty taught at St. John Vianney. She was and will forever be a very special influence in my life…the ONE elementary school teacher who I can honestly say influenced my decision to become a teacher and then principal (now retired). Like many children, I had my challenges, but Betty ensured that I would succeed in my own little ways and at the end of the year she presented me with a small gift; a necklace with my initial. I wore it for years ~ it was my special treasure from Betty from which I pulled strength when I needed that little extra boost of confidence to ‘get things done’.

Although it is difficult now, I hope reflecting on the many great memories of your mom/grandma give you joy and peace with each passing day.

    Christine Toth
