Douglas “Doug” Lorne Corbett

November 3, 1944 - April 8, 2025

Funeral Details: A Celebration of Life will be held on April 26, 2025 at the Army Navy and Air Force Club, 52 Morrow Rd., Barrie from 2–4 p.m.

Passed away peacefully at Soldiers Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, April 8, 2025, in his 81st year.

Beloved husband of the late Diane Tilley.  Loving son of the late Lorne and Velma Corbett.  Dear brother to Linda (Steve), Larry, Keith, and the late Gordan. Proud father to Kathleen (Andrew), cherished grandfather to Nickolas (Teona) and Jacob, and beloved GG to Rees and Riley.

Doug was also a devoted stepfather to Randy (Debbie), Robert (Anna), Margaret (late Mark), and Jeananne. He will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Heather Gill and Jake McFadden, and will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and extended family.

Doug was a quiet and reserved man with a deep love for sports—especially football and NASCAR. He never missed a Super Bowl and cheered on his favourite drivers, Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. Though often mistaken for being grumpy, those who knew him understood his kind heart and dry humor. His best friend and constant companion was Rosie, his loyal dog, who shared his love for slippers and bacon treats.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 26, 2025 at the Army Navy and Air Force Club, 52 Morrow Rd., Barrie from 2–4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Doug’s memory.

You sat back quietly as we all made noise around you. Laughing with the sparkles in your eyes as we all had fun. You listened, but didn’t say a thing unless you needed too. You always watched to make sure you’re girls were ok . I knew you love me as one of your own. I will miss you!
    You step-daughter

My step-dad Doug was an extraordinary man. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved.

Beloved husband to the late Sandra Corbett (nee Short). They separated after my Mom had to go into nursing care and he re-kindled his relationship with his first wife Diane. He came to me seeking acceptance and approval, and I’ll never forget that visit. He and I were both people of very few words, but both conveyed a deep love and respect. My Mom’s last wishes was to be in his arms, and he moved mountains to make that happen. He helped me through her funeral by giving me his strength and solidarity.

I am so very grateful you called me from the hospital. I’m just sorry I couldn’t get there in time to say goodbye. I’ll forever cherish that last conversation. I love you.

My heart is with my step-sister Kathy and her family. We were blessed to share his love.

Jean Beattie-Swackhamer. (Though you always used my full name Jean-Anne)
