Funeral Details: Private family arrangements

Lloyd Douglas Morley (aka Doug Morley) passed away peacefully at the age of 63 on July 16, 2024 in Palliative Care at Southlake Hospital with his family by his side.

Doug was a big family man with time honored values. He had a strong work ethic and instilled the same in his sons who he loved and adored.

Doug cherished having late night talks at the kitchen table with his boys Shaun and Brett, usually enjoying more than a few beers or glasses of wine and listening to music until the wee hours of the morning often debating what era or genre was the best. Doug would usually bring up guitar solos as one of his points. Rock on Dougie. There were many times after everyone retired , Doug would stay up and continue to listen to music with his headphones while everyone tried to sleep. He would quickly forget everyone could hear him passionately singing, simultaneously forgetting singing was not his forte.

Doug was a die-hard Maple Leaf fan and every new hockey season hoping they win the Stanley Cup. (He was 7 when they last won) No. 93, Dougie Gilmore, was his favorite player.

Tennis was another passion of Doug’s. He would call his twin brother Paul the night before and no matter how hot it was schedule a 4 to 5 hour match and tried to never leave the court unless he was the victor. Many a racket was smashed on the court.

During the holidays with family, a dart tournament was bound to break out. Doug and his usual partner Jesse, the two most competitive and also self-decreed champions would always boast “who wants a piece of the dream team” and laughing “who’s next?” after a victory. They also had the highest count of rematches.

Doug was fair but competitive in nature, honest and had a great sense of humor with a positive outlook in life, He also loved watching black and white noir and war movies and absolutely loved music, but most of all, Doug loved his wife, Karen and was so very proud of his 2 sons Shaun and Brett and wanted only the best for his family. He loved to cook Sunday dinners and BBQ steaks on Saturday, sit in the backyard, play tunes or cards or just relaxing with his wife.

Doug will be remembered as a loving devoted husband, proud and supportive father, loving brother to Isobel, Dave, Paul, Art, Yvonne and Laura, a hard worker and a good friend to many. Doug will be missed by all who loved him.

Brother-in-law, you were more than family, A friend, a confidante, a part of me, And when you left, you left a void, That can never be filled or avoided. But though we grieve and our hearts may break, We’ll hold on tight to the memories we’ll make, For in your life, you touched so many hearts, And left a legacy that forever imparts. So farewell, dear brother-in-law, my friend, For in my heart, you’ll never end.

Our sincerest condolences to the entire Morley family, especially Karen, Shaun and my good friend Brett. I’ve spent a few nights up late at the Morley’s sipping wine on the back porch with Doug and the boys, singing, dancing and having quite the laugh. Doug’s love for life will live on in each of you and everyone he met. He was one of a kind and raised amazing one of a kind young men. May he ‘float, float on’ in peace. All my love
