In Loving Memory of David Royce Martin

David Martin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and uncle, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on August 18, 2023, at RVRHC Barrie, ON, surrounded by his loving family in his 76th year.

David is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Cindy, who stood by his side through all of life's joys and challenges. He will forever be remembered as a loving and dedicated father to his children: Chris-Anne, Kelly, Amanda (Wade), Kevin (Sarah), and Bryant (Jenna). His legacy lives on through his proud role as Papa to Kala, Christian, Jordan (Cole), Jayme, Kendal, Hailey, Connor, Paige, Davin, Cole, Liam, Lily, Drake, Austin, and Alexis. He also cherished his role as Great Grand Papa to Diem, Ollie, and Ember.

In addition to his immediate family, David leaves behind his brother Paul Martin (Christine) and sister Cheryl Stone (Calvin). He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews, a presence of warmth and wisdom in their lives.

Predeceased by Royce and Leona Martin and sister Brenda Murray.

David's life was a testament to his unwavering faith, which guided him through life's journey. He was a man who loved deeply and without reservation. His family was his greatest source of joy, and he poured his heart into being the best husband, father, and grandfather he could be.

Gospel music held a special place in David's heart, serving as a constant inspiration throughout his life. He found solace and joy in its melodies, and his passion for music was a gift he shared with all those around him.

A dedicated and hard worker, David's work ethic was admirable. He took pride in his efforts and always gave his best, setting an example for those fortunate enough to know him.

David had an incredible ability to capture the essence of life through his storytelling and keen observations. His stories were a treasure trove of wisdom, humor, and insight, leaving a lasting impact on those who heard them.

Perhaps one of David's most remarkable traits was his open-door policy to anyone who needed it. His genuine kindness and hospitality knew no bounds, and his willingness to welcome others into his life was a reflection of his compassionate nature.

As we mourn the loss of David Martin, let us remember the incredible man he was: a loving family man, a faithful believer, a music enthusiast, a dedicated worker, a storyteller, and a friend to all. His spirit will forever echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service to celebrate David's life will be held on Friday August 25th service begins at 1pm at Connexus Church, 20 Mills Road Barrie. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his honor to Connexus Church https://connexuschurch.com/give/.  A special thanks from our family to the Connexus church community and Dave and Cindy’s small group for your friendship, love and care.  Your kindness has been a comfort and a blessing during this difficult time.

"Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed, and very dear."

Forever in our hearts, The Martin Family

Cindy: Very sorry to see and read of Dave’s passing. My memory of him 50 years ago was of a young man who was full of energy, life and passion for music. Hard to imagine his leaving us far too soon. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you make the enormous adjustment to the next chapter in your life. Warm regards from British Columbia. Craig

David always impressed when seeing him as his wonderful smile was shared and his humour was a spirit lifter. Gifted with musical ability his beautiful voice was used to bring hope and joy to so many within its hearing.
Once a friend always a friend no matter the years that past between your meetings. No matter what job he took on he did it with dedication and a wonderful spirit. We cherished our times with he and Cindy when our children were younger and they lived near by. Whether sharing a pizza at their place or meeting at church or watching The Canada U.S.S.R. hockey series at Maple Leaf Gardens where his humour made the night even more special. The love he had for Cindy and family was always evident. Into your sorrow may the Lord bring His amazing comfort and nearness. You are very much loved.

Cindy we were saddened to hear of Dave’s sudden passing. We enjoyed our years with you both in Small Group especially the times we did dinners from other countries and you guys did Newfoundland. Lots of laughs we had as well as our closeness in the Word and sharing and praying with the group. Dave is now with his Lord and Saviour and we pray for strength Cindy for you to do life without him. You have wonderful family support which we know will help you through your grief.

Aunt Cindy we are so very sad to hear the news of Uncle Dave. I am sad that over the years we haven’t seen you all as much as we would have liked, but he will always be remembered with great fondness. He was such a sweet, kind man with a huge heart. After I heard the news, I actually put on some gospel quartet music and thought of the times I got to see him sing with dad and it brought me right back to that moment. He had a wonderful voice! Sending lots of love to all of you during this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave when he took on the role of coach and school bus driver later on life. He could always be relied upon to safely drive passengers whether it was children to and from school or adults travelling further afield. Dave always had a smile on his face and time for a chat. He will be missed by many. No one is lost who is not forgotten.

Have many fond memories of Dave – a super nice guy. He loved southern gospel music as did Terry and I! Dave and Paul Martin, Walt Cross and Bruce MacDonald sang in an excellent gospel quartet in Winnipeg when we were all teenagers. A long time ago! David loved Jesus as a teenager and continued as a committed follower until passing into Glory!
