Brian Freeman passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 14, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. He was 66-years-old.

Brian made friends everywhere he went and was known for his sense of humour and positive outlook on life. However, he was also a hockey player with a competitive streak — he loved winning almost as much as he hated losing.

Brian’s dream was to become an airline pilot but after a life-altering accident he had to change career paths. He became a truck driver, travelling all across Canada and the United States, but maintained his private pilot’s license.

He loved spending time on his boat down at the Barrie marina. He enjoyed hanging out at the marina with other boaters, and loved to take his friends and family for boat rides.

Brian is survived by his son Jerome Freeman, his daughter Jenna (Patrick) Mayne and his new granddaughter Autumn Mayne. In addition, Brian is survived by his father James Freeman, his brothers Jim (Margaret) Freeman and Joe Freeman, and his sister Eileen Freeman. He was predeceased by his mother Margaret Freeman.

Donations in Brian’s memory can be made to the RVRHC Cancer Centre. https://www.rvh.on.ca/areas-of-care/cancer-program/

I first met Brian on his first day working at Canada cartage. I had been designated as a driving instructor for their Moore packaging division in Barrie. Although Brian was a seasoned vet, he was still required to do a 3 day team up delivery session with me. We hit it off immediately. It was like being reunited with a long lost friend or brother. His twisted sense of humor and quick retorts were only superseded by his compassion for people and life itself. We shared a love of boating and fishing that seldom left us short of conversation. He was as selfless a person as I have ever met. Although I never met his children or ex wife, I felt as if I had. I know He loved them dearly. He will be missed, but not forgotten. One of the good ones.

Met Brian at Pat & Jenna’s new house. He left a very fun impression and it was very evident that he cared a great deal for the both of them then and in the comments he made at their wedding. My condolences to family and friends of Brian. He will be missed but not forgotten.
