Funeral Details: Celebration of Life to be held at a later date

Edwards, Audrey

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Audrey on March 25, 2022 in Barrie at the age of 85 years.

Daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Edwards. Survived by her sisters Margaret (Brian) and Jean and predeceased by her sister Joyce and brother Les.

Loving aunt to Nicole, Matt (Rob) and Stu. Great aunt to Emma, Jake, London, Preston, Quinn and Zoe. Audrey will sadly be missed by her extended family in England and her many friends around the world.

Audrey immigrated to Canada from England when she was in her early twenties. She started her career at Imperial Oil in Toronto as a secretary. She was a hard worker and very ambitious, which allowed her to move through the secretarial ranks in various departments, with her final role being an executive assistant to the directors.

Audrey was an exceptionally busy lady who loved being involved in many different activities and clubs. She loved Aqua Fit, Thai Chi, gardening, traveling and especially spending time with her family and friends. Some of her favorite clubs included; badminton, golf, photography and the Imperial Oil Choristers and Annuitants Club. She was a member of the congregation and choir at St. Martin in the Fields Anglican Church in Toronto. She volunteered a lot of her time at the church as a social convenor where she helped organize many events. She also volunteered at Roy Thompson Hall as an usher as well as at the West Park Healthcare Centre in the gift shop.

Audrey loved going to the ballet, musicals, plays and the opera. Many trips were taken to the Stratford Summer Music Festival and the Niagara on the Lake Music Festival with her friends.

Audrey was an extremely generous, kind and thoughtful person who always had a smile on her face and provided a helping hand for those who needed it.

Anyone who knew Audrey would know that her family was the most important thing to her. She was a huge part of Stu, Matt and Nicole’s life and was very special to them. She taught them so much and they will be forever grateful.

The family would like to thank the staff at Woods Park Care Centre in Barrie for the care they provided to Audrey over the past 2 years.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Audrey was one of the first secretaries which I had when I joined IOL in the early ’60’s. She not only was a great secretary but she was a wonderful upbeat person to be with. I enjoyed being with Audrey very much. I have many fond memories of her as I am sure you do. My condolences to the family.

We regarded dear Audrey as “not just a friend, but truly family”!! Audrey & Lyndsay go back a long way meeting while both working for Imperial Oil. They worked closely together at IOL for a long time. Lyndsay & Audrey shared singing with the Esso Choisters and Brian shared time with her enjoying the Esso Camera Club.
Brian & Lyndsay agree that when they were with Audrey they always shared love, laughter and heaps of fun!! They also shared a lot of travel together.
From memory we think Audrey visited Australia about four times over the years. The last visit was to help Lyndsay’s family celebrate Lyndsay’s Mom’s 100th birthday. What a day!! Lyndsay’s Mom adored Audrey and regarded her as “one of her wee chickens”! Also, Brian’s Mom used to refer to Audrey as “her little elf”. So much love!!
We are all so saddened by Audrey’s passing but we agree that we share wonderful memories of times shared with a wonderful loyal friend and a most christian soul. Bless you dearest friend. Brian & Lyndsay xxoo

What a beautiful picture of Audrey and such a wonderful obituary, capturing the life she led with so much love and kindness for others. I will always treasure our friendship of over 50 years and often reminisce about our time with the Anglican Young Peoples’ Association, our frequent phone calls and visits and our once in a lifetime trip to the East Coast together. I giggle each time I think of the time I visited her family in England and they wanted to know if all Canadians were giants. Memories will keep dear Audrey in my heart forever and I am certain she is at peace now.
    Condolences to Audrey’s family.
