Alice Susanne Dalton

July 20, 1963 - August 21, 2022

Funeral Details: Sunday, November 20, 2022 A Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Memorial United Church, Little Catalina, Newfoundland at 2:00pm

Passed away suddenly, but peacefully on August 21, 2022 at the RVRHC, Barrie.  Dear daughter of Victor and the late Lorraine Dalton.  Loved and missed by her sister Vickie and brother Lorne (Leona), niece Dominique (Tyler), great-nieces Brooklyn and Raylynn, who were the “sunshine of her life”.  Alice’s Ontario family, Dax, Dave, and Brett Jensen were honoured to have her as a family member for 11 years.

Alice was a beautiful soul and touched everyone with her kindness and love.  We have a lot of wonderful and funny memories.  Alice was a member of the Barrie Art Club, past president and membership coordinator, and involved in the Arts and Crafts portion of Kempenfest.  She was an amazing artist with a passion for painting her down home roots of Newfoundland.  The world was a better place with Alice in it.

We would like to thank the Hospital nursing staff of RVRHC for their kindness, compassion, and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations to any Cancer Research group in your area would be appreciated by the family.

Alice was a delight to know and I am grateful that I had that opportunity. She was a joy to be around and she loved hugging and being hugged. I will miss her so much as will all the people who interacted with her. Go safely, Alice.

Alice and I met at the Art Club in Barrie. We made fast friends because she was so warm and friendly. We had recently had a holiday in Newfoundland and I was excited to tell her how much we loved the island especially its people. Alice never failed to live up to the generosity and kindness of the islanders. She always called me Miss Jennifer…not sure why but it made me feel special! We had birthdays one day apart so we would meet for lunch. She would always order macaroni and cheese with lobster…staying with her roots. She encouraged me in my art and even had some framed for an exhibition. I have three of her paintings and many cards she made especially for me. I will treasure them all. She was one unique person who will live on in my heart forever.

Alice was my mom’s friend for many years. She would send mom jokes on handmade cards. Alice was very talented and such a sweet person. God bless.

My most sincere condolences to the Dalton family. I met Alice through the Jensen’s 11 years ago. She was the most kind hearted and welcoming person. She spoke gently but her quick wit and sense of humour truly had me in tears laughing hysterically at the dinner table, and if I wasn’t quick my drinks would be coming out my nose! It was such a delight to be around her.  She was the most lovely person and I am so grateful to have gotten to know Alice and spend time with her.. Her art, storytelling, singer and playing guitar will be missed, but most importantly the space she held will feel empty too all who knew her..

While I didn’t know Alice for very long, I worked with her on the HFAC team (arts & crafts Kempenfest) and am a fellow Barrie Art Club member. I knew her to be kind, helpful, and an incredible artist. I will miss her on the HFAC, and would like to send my heartfelt condolences to her family and others who were close to her.

We’ll always remember Alice’s quirky smile and even quirkier Newfie accent, both of which we loved so much! Alice, you’ll be missed. Ralph, especially, will miss you because you’re the only person who called him “Handsome”.

Alice has been like family for more than a decade. We always enjoyed visiting with her. She was so kind, caring and generous. My kids both have paintings hanging on their bedroom wall that Alice made for them. She listened when my kids talked and painted something special that they were interested in. They will serve as a wonderful memory of her. I always remember how Alice would text or mail an encouraging note or a heartfelt thank you. She will be missed.

Many friends come into our lives, but only a few leave with their footprints on our hearts. You had a heart of gold, and one of the most caring and generous people with your time and love that I’ve ever met. You always had words of encouragement and of course the best sense of humour. You will be missed by so many, but that’s because you touched all of our hearts with so much love.

Alice and I met first at the Barrie Art Club and became long time friends. She was kind, funny and one fantastic painter. The five of us would go and paint (Dax, Barb, my Husband Peter , Rose and of course Alice. Balls fall’s was our last painting together. We stayed overnight and had a blast. Her humour and wit and kindness is something we will always remember.
    She will be greatly missed!

Alice has been like a big sister to me for over a decade. She was kind, thoughtful and so very funny. I will miss opening my lunch everyday and seeing what surprise treat she had put in when I wasn’t looking. Maybe a chocolate bar or a note just reminding me to have a good day.
The world was just a better place with her in it. Forever walk peacefully my beautiful friend.
    Love you and miss you.

Alice was a kind loving person. She showed her love of life through her art. Whenever we visited, Alice had a smile and had a love for my grandson’s as well. Alice always had a kind word and a smile for those around her. She will be missed.

I am so sad that Alice has passed from our lives. It is such a loss. She was a remarkable person – witty, warm and above all else, had a big heart full of love. I will never forget that big welcoming smile followed immediately by a big welcoming hug. She had a way of making every single person she encountered feel like a special friend and a person of worth. I am so glad to have a painting of hers to remind me of her and how special she was.In the first few raw weeks after the death of my mother, a friend of hers who was an Anglican nun told me in a very straightforward way “She is not very far away Gail”. I found that very comforting and I feel that Alice is not very far away. However, there is no denying that we all feel the loss of her physical presence – the smile, the humour and the wit liberally sprinkled with Newfie sayings! She loved the “News from Away” segments on Royal Canadian Air Farce! How wonderfully she used the gift of her life to make things better for all of us. Alice, you will never be forgotten and your memory will continue to enrich our lives. Thank you for all of it.
