WANNER, Alfred “Fred”
March 6, 1929 – February 16, 2015
After a long, well lived life, Fred passed away peacefully with the love of his family at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie, just before his 86th birthday.
Fred was Emilie’s loving and caring husband for almost 61 years, proud father to Monica, and Opa to Kimberley and Steven.
Fred immigrated to Canada from Germany and settled in Montréal. Emilie followed shortly thereafter and one month after her arrival, they were married on March 6, 1954. In the summer of 1996 they relocated to their retirement home in beautiful Barrie, Ontario.
Thank you to Drs. Anne Duvall and Derek Nay for your support, comfort and care of both Emilie and Fred, and many, many thanks to the staff and volunteers at Barrie’s Royal Victoria Hospital, and Hospice Simcoe who gave such special care to Fred in his last days. Your compassion helped ease the emotion and pain.
As per Fred’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. His life will be celebrated at a private event in the spring, where guests are encouraged to bring pictures you have of Fred and share your stories and memories.
