Alan Matthew Gordon
It is with profound sadness that the family of Alan “Flash” Gordon announce his sudden passing on Monday March 27th 2023.
Born on June 29th 1962 to the late Maeclaire and Allister Gordon, Al was the 2nd youngest of seven children with siblings Matthew, Michael (Genevieve) and Arlene predeceasing his passing. He will be deeply missed by wife Paula (Ella, Lily), children Tiffany and Dane, siblings Mae Ellen Clemens (Barry), Alana Goodman (Bob), Mark Gordon as well as multiple nieces, nephews, extended family and friends from coast to coast.
Al exemplified what it meant to be a great person leading life with compassion, kindness and positivity. He was a devoted father, spouse, and friend. Anyone who knew him understood what a truly magnificent person he was. He enjoyed everything life had to offer, with a passion for sports specifically golf, curling and baseball. He was a valued member of the community volunteering his time to coach youth baseball in Barrie. Al’s attitude and approach to life was unmatched. He saw everything from a positive perspective and kept this spirit up until his very last day.
His family would like to thank the cardiac team at Southlake Regional Hospital, specifically Dr. Emily Leroux for all their dedication, care and empathy.
Friends are invited to join Al’s family in a celebration of his life on Sunday, April 2nd 2023 from 1p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Southshore Community Centre, 205 Lakeshore Drive, Barrie Ontario.
In Lieu of flowers, a donation can be made on Al’s behalf to the Oak Ridges Hospice of Durham (https://www.oakridgeshospice.com/donatetoorh), which supported his sister Arlene and was an organization near and dear to his heart.

Posted on: Thursday, March 30, 2023To Alan’s family I am so sorry for your loss. I knew flash from early childhood through our late teens. I always remember flash for his humor, easy going personality and his love of baseball. I kept up with Al’s world via all the friends he and I had in common and it sounds like he never changed. A great person for this world that made a difference. Again my condolences. 🙏🙏

Posted on: Sunday, April 2, 2023Even though the time I knew Flash the best was 40 years ago and only for a few brief years, some of my favourite memories include him. His iconic and ironic nickname suited him so well, I never heard anyone ever call him anything else. When we saw each other occasionally in the years following, he always had a smile and a kind word as we took time to catch up. Flash was a genuinely kind person and I am deeply saddened by his passing. My sincere condolences to Flash’s family.

Posted on: Sunday, April 2, 2023Absolutely devastated by this unfortunate loss to so many. I didn’t know Al long in comparison to some, but he was always so fun to be around, positive and cheery. We enjoyed “Peace pipe” wings at Wild Wing as well as several rounds of golf on various courses in Barrie and our yearly cabin getaway golf at Wooden Sticks. Always a gentleman, with a hearty laugh, having fun and enjoying life. Who knew he’d be taken from us so soon. We will miss you Al “Garfoose” Gordon. May you rest in peace friend…
