Alan Dennis Platt

July 14, 1944 - December 9, 2024

Funeral Details: Private Cremation has taken place in accordance with Al's wishes.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alan, aged 80, on December 9, 2024 at 1:00 am. Holding hands with his daughter, Claire, he departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, love and unwavering bravery.

Born on July 14, 1944, in the United Kingdom, Alan was the eldest child of Dennis and Vera Platt. He worked diligently towards his career as a Photogravure Engraver. This led Al and his family to Canada in 1981, where they settled in Mississauga, Ontario.

Predeceased, in 1987, by his wife, and mother of Debbie, Claire and Craig, Marie Platt. A love story that ended far too soon. We take such comfort in knowing they are together, once again.

Alan is survived by devoted daughters, Claire (Simon) and Debbie (Denis) and his son, Craig. Spouse, Susan and her family. His grandchildren, of whom he was so proud. Much loved brother, Ian (Marie) and his sister Maureen (Tony). Along with many nieces and nephews. Al was deeply proud of his family and although some relationships were complex, he knew he was greatly loved by those that mattered.

Alan's greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren. He loved to hear about their interests and enjoyed catching up with them during our family dinners. He loved talking trucks and cranes with Tyler, music with Chris and sports with Andrew. He looked forward to his phone updates on the Leafs, Raptors, Jays and Special Olympics bowling.

Alan had such wonderful support during his illness, we owe such a debt of gratitude to the following; Dr. Shaquil Kassam, Oncologist. Jared, Oncology Nurse and the entire staff at The Stronach Cancer Center. Thanks to them, Alan enjoyed many many extra months with his family. Hospice Vaughan and their incredibly kind, caring and compassionate team. They made the final 6 weeks so comfortable and dignified for Alan and could not do enough to care for his family. Special thank you to Alicia and the Peaceful Transition team for all of their help.

At his request, no formal service will be held. There will be a private cremation and he will join Marie at her resting place. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a contribution in Al's name to Hospice Vaughan, The Stronach Cancer Center or Special Olympics Ontario.

Although our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing he will live on through the lives he touched. His legacy is one of strength, love and gratitude. He will be greatly missed.
