Funeral Details: Private Family Arrangements

It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of our patriarch Stanley Egerton on January 12, 2025, peacefully in his 100th year. He left us surrounded by his loving family at the Sunnybrook Hospital’s Veteran Centre. Stanley was the loving father of Jim and his wife Michelle. Loving grandfather “poppy” of 9 grandchildren; Kelly, Denise, Kimberly (Pat), Shawn (Kim), Shannon (Sherisse), Stacie (Massimo), Stanley III (Tina), Ryley, and Jenna. He was also blessed with 9 great-grandchildren; Carolyn, Kurtis, Kindree, Khloee, Chantal, Austin, Mason, Charlie, Chase, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; Wesley, Kylie, Andrea, and Lincoln. Stanley will also be remembered by his daughter-in-law Linda (Barry), numerous relatives, family members, and friends.

Born to the late Frank and Jean Egerton, Stanley was predeceased by his siblings Jean, Jimmie, George, and Frank. He was reunited in peace with his devoted wife of 55 years, Dollie (2001), his son George (2008) and wife Gloria (2022), daughter Carolyn (2023) and husband Gary (2019), and by his son Stanley II (1993).

Stanley’s life was marked by service and dedication. Born and raised in Toronto, he excelled in track and field during his youth. At 16, he enlisted in the Toronto Scottish Regiment and courageously served in the Normandy Campaign. After returning home, he became a Police Officer before dedicating 40 years to the City of Toronto as a Firefighter. His passion for athletics endured, and he proudly represented Canada on the National Track and Field Team and the Masters Team, competing internationally.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hung and all her staff at the Sunnybrook Hospital’s Veteran Centre “L” Wing First Floor for their compassionate care, with a special thank you to Mandy and Camille.

A private family service will take place at a later date, followed by a Celebration of Life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Sunnybrook Hospital’s Veteran Centre – 2075 Bayview Ave., Toronto, ON, M4N 1J7.
