With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert Patrick Henry Dawson, beloved father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and cherished friend. Patrick passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the Southlake Long Term Care Centre in Newmarket, Ontario, at the age of 77.

Born on June 16, 1947, in Montreal, Quebec, Patrick was the cherished son of Lillian and Henry Dawson (predeceased). After growing up in Montreal, Patrick moved to Toronto in 1972, then onto Unionville in 1982, and eventually settled in Aurora in 1989, where he built a life with his family. He had a lifelong passion for sports, particularly golf, hockey, squash, football, and baseball, and enjoyed both playing and watching games with his loved ones. He also found peace in spending time on Manitoulin Island, a place close to his heart.

Patrick was pre-deceased by his wives, Jennifer Dawson (Weiland) and Mary- Ann Dawson (McDougall), and is survived by his devoted wife, Gwen McGenerty.

He is also lovingly remembered and will be greatly missed by his brother Michael Dawson (Gail Hakala), children: Tamara Dawson, Julie Baird (Gordon Baird), and Matthew Dawson (Alexis Dawson), as well as stepchildren Tracy Smith (Ryan Smith) and Shaun McGenerty (Krystyn Cruickshank). Patrick was proud to be a grandfather to Shelby, Brayden, Taryn, Everett, Avery, Leyton, Micah, and Aria, and a great-grandfather to Peyton, who brought him immense joy.
Patrick's kindness, sense of humor, and generosity of spirit touched the lives of many. He will be fondly remembered by his many friends (special shout out to the Linton Gang) and extended family, who all shared in the warmth of his company and the strength of his character.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on January 25, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 254 Corner Ridge Rd, Aurora, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Southlake Residential Care Village or Diabetes Canada.

Patrick's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and he will forever be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, husband, and friend. May he rest in peace.

Our most heartfelt condolences to Tammy, Julie, Matt and Tracy and all of your extended family.
It is difficult to lose a parent, as each of you has already experienced. Be there for each other. Hug a little tighter.

Each of you is proof that he was a loving parent as he raised some pretty amazing kids.
Pat would be described as “just a really nice guy”. May he rest with those he loved.

    Sincerely Ross & Deone

My deepest condolences to you Julie, Tammy, Matt and Tracy for the loss of your Dad. Pat was an all around great guy and like a father figure to me. There were many years of Sunday dinners that I will always cherish. I still think of your Dad every now and again when I meet someone new and they reach out to shake my hand. An image of meeting your Dad for the first time…Firm handshake and ‘Hi I’m Pat Dawson’ pops into my head 🙂 I know your memories will be cherished always. Find comfort too in that Pat is no longer suffering and is now reunited with loved ones gone too soon. Hugs to you all and the whole family.

I was so sorry to hear the sad news about Pat. Thinking of him brought back so many wonderful memories of our times together…playing squash, going to The Masters, taking trips etc. etc….and we’ll never forget his well-researched speech about Rabbie Burns!

Warmest thoughts go out to his family. He will be fondly remembered.

    John
