It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Alfred Goodyer on September 26, 2024, at the age of 79 years old.  Ken was born on June 26, 1945, in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Edith Rose Gosse-Goodyer and Henry Barron (partner).  Predeceased by his older brother – Douglas and stepfather William Goodyer.

Ken was a devoted partner/spouse to the love of his life, Sharon, and a loving father to his two sons – Peter (Sandra) and Ashley (Jennifer).  Ken was also a proud grandfather to Kayla, Emilee, and Brendan as well as a great grandfather to Nash and Ellie.

Ken was a very hard working and dedicated co-owner/operator of Handy Hardware located in Stroud, Ontario for over 20 years.

Ken’s hobbies and interests helped define who he was.  He loved life on the water, boating, cars, carpentry, and scuba diving.  In fact, Ken was the youngest registered diver in Ontario and use to teach diving at CFB, Borden, Angus, Ontario.

We find comfort in knowing that Ken’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love that he shared and the memories we will cherish forever.

A special thank you to the Long-Term Care Facility – Spencer House, in Orillia, Ontario for all of their kindness and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario in memory of Ken would be appreciated.

What can I say about my father in a condolence. We had alot of memories together, boating encompassed most of our time as I was growing up, together living on the water. I learned what I know from my Dad. Although one funny story in 1989 in a terrible storm on Lake Simcoe with our 33 foot Shephard cabin cruiser, we almost lost the boat, but with his diligence bailing the boat after losing the dingy we got to port at Big Bay Point Marina. Up into the lift and into drydock, I don’t think I ever saw him so panicked, but we laughed afterwards. That was one of many memories growing up with my dad. He was one to always lend a hand and when visitors came over the 47 years I have been with our family, he was always excited to see those who made the time to see him. Growing up we had large family gatherings with my grandmother and grandfather, most of 20 or more people would make the trip in for the family especially at Christmas time. My dad always with the proper dress attire, and proud to look awesome for our family functions. I will miss those days taking about cars, boats and any thing we were both passionate about.

I will miss you Dad, you raised me and I will continue forward knowing one day I will see you again.

I will always remember Ken Goodyer as one of the most interesting people I have ever met. He was always quick with a joke, quick with advice to fix things or quick to help you out. Ken truly had some of the best stories to tell which really illustrated what a rich and unique experience he had with the world. When I was growing up I thought that Ken had it all. A life living on the water at Big Bay point, two big houses, a boat, a Corvette and nothing but relaxation. If only we all had just some of that style of life Ken enjoyed, I think we’d all be a little better off. Ken, thanks for showing us the better side of life and what to strive for. You and your style will not be forgotten and will continue to live on. -JJ
