Cecilia was proudly born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and embodied the East Coast spirit of friendliness and kindness. While in Halifax, she graduated from Mrs. Murphy Business College before starting a new adventure when she moved to Lahr, Germany with her daughter Sharon in 1972. Cecilia worked in various positions while in Lahr, ending with her most enjoyable role as the NPF Cashier for the Canadian Forces. She travelled extensively while in Europe, with the highlight being an audience with Pope Paul VI at the Vatican in 1975.
Cecilia moved to Ottawa in 1979 where she worked for Canada Post until her early retirement in 1996. Cecilia moved to Barrie in 1996 to spend more time with her daughter and family. Not idle long, she enrolled in Georgian College to become a Personal Support Worker (PSW). Cecilia met Bill Twaddle in 1997 and sparks flew! Bill’s charm was irresistible and they married in 2014. Cecilia worked with passion and dedication within her role as PSW for the Red Cross and St. Elizabeth Healthcare until 2013, when she fully retired.
Cecilia was humble, kind, generous, and compassionate. She was a doting grandmother and spoiled her granddaughters with unconditional love. She was a warm and fun-loving person who treasured time spent with friends and family, both in Atlantic Canada and Ontario. She loved to dance, go boating, and enjoyed collecting her winnings in a game of Dice. Cecilia loved animals of all kinds, and in recent years visits from therapy dogs and “Fozzie” the dog brightened Cecilia’s days. But she always professed that it was cats which held a special place in her heart, most recently her beloved cat Maddie. Best of all, Cecilia enjoyed the simple things in life, which will continue to inspire us.
Regrettably, Cecilia suffered from dementia in her final years, and passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024 with her daughter Sharon by her side.
Cecilia was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Adeline Delaney, her sister Mary Rose Higdon, brothers Johnny and Tommy Delaney, and her granddaughter Lee MacMillan.
Cecilia is survived by her loving husband Bill Twaddle, daughter Sharon MacMillan (Wil), granddaughter Sasha MacMillan (James Appleby), great-granddaughter Romy Lee Appleby, and will be sadly missed by the many members of Cecilia’s and Bill’s families.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation for the care that was given to Cecilia by staff at both RVH and Roberta’s Place. In memory of Cecilia, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Simcoe County at www.alzheimer.ca.
