I knew Tom for over 30 years. My Parents, Brother and I had emigrated from England to Canada just over two years before we moved in next door to the Hansel’s. They quickly became our extended Canadian family helping us to feel connected in a new country thousands of miles from home. Our families celebrated many of life’s milestones together from holidays and birthdays to ultimately wedding’s and for many years it was a treasured tradition to share Christmas dinner together.

From the beginning Tom always insisted that my Brother and I call him Tom, never Mr. Hansel! Tom, was always there if we needed him. As his business was based from home, it was a comfort to know that he was right next door to provide support if needed, including when my Brother and I started a small grease fire in our Kitchen. Our parents were not home at the time but Tom was so I rushed over and knocked on his door, to which he responded, why did you knock – there’s a fire!! then rushed over to help us. I remember cooling off on hot summer days during kids vs. adults family water fights, with Tom lobbing water balloons from the upstairs windows. He also taught me how to make the best fried egg sandwich that I still call a Tom sandwich to this day, and I will continue to smile for Tom every time I enjoy one. As I grew up, our families continued to share many memorable and fun Saturday Night gatherings at “The Party House”. Tom was there as I got Married, helping my Husband and I with home projects after buying our first house, and providing valued advice whenever we visited him while he was at work at The Home Depot.

Tom was a significant part of my formative years and I will always be grateful he was a part of it. He was a man I could trust and I always appreciated his honesty and willingness to help others when possible. I will fondly remember his smile and his laugh.

Having moved away from Ontario in 2011, I had not seen Tom in many years and I know that he had been experiencing some significant health challenges for some time. I am sure this was a challenging time for him, as well as all those that loved and cared for him and while I know he will be missed I hope he has now found some peace. I send my love and sincere condolences to Deb, Jenn & Jason and their families as well as all those who knew and loved him. I will miss you Tom.

I am saddened by Tom’s passing. We were good friends while attending King City Secondary School. It was a delight to reconnect with Tom and Debbie in Aurora many years ago. I am sorry we lost touch in the past few year.

I always liked bumping into Tom around town and enjoyed his laugh as we talked about old times and friends.

I am sorry Debbie and family for your loss, and to Eric and Tom’s Mum. Tom was a very nice person.

Audrey and I send our heartfelt condolences.

A big Thank You to everyone who came to the Celebration of Life for Tom and his Dad.

Great turn out. It was awesome to reconnect with old friends.
Our biggest surprise was from a cousin, who came in from Florida!

We also had an old Buddy of Tom’s show up from MI, USA.

The sun shone bright! We enjoyed each other’s company!

    Thanks again!!!! xoxo
