Funeral Details: Private Family Farewell

Simmons, June

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother June Simmons on August 19, 2023 at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa.

Our mother was the heart and soul of our family. She loved family gatherings and went to great lengths to make each celebration special. Christmas was her favorite holiday.  Each year, right after Hallowe’en, she would start decorating and each year after Christmas dinner she would pull out her Santa sack from which everyone could pull one of the many individually wrapped gifts.  It was always the highlight of the evening. In the summer she would turn her backyard into a mini golf course and the entire family would compete for a prize.

June loved gardening, wildlife, birds and dogs, in particular.  She loved playing Scrabble with her daughters and cards with her neighbours.  Even at 92 years of age she would always look forward to watching the Toronto Maple Leaf and Blue Jay games.  She loved music and dancing and was a talented artist.

A long term employee of Upjohn Pharmaceuticals (Pfizer), June retired in October 1992 to spend more time with her husband Bill who predeceased her in December 2021 after 34-1/2 years of marriage. June is also predeceased by her parents Lillian and Cecil Moore and her brothers Tracy, John and Jim.  She will be greatly missed by her children Chris (Roxanne), Stephen (Janet), Nancy and Cheryl (Bill), her grandchildren Adam (Mary-Angela), Drew ((Brooke) and Amanda (Adamo), her great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

We would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Oshawa Lakeridge for their support and care of our mother the past 5 weeks.  We would also like to thank all of the nurses and PSWs at Chartwell Wynfield in Oshawa who took care of my mother over the past year and a half.  My mother considered many of them her friends.

A Private Farewell will take place.  Arrangements entrusted to Peaceful transition York (2-15236 Yonge Street, Aurora) and condolences may be forwarded through www.peacefultransition.ca

Mom, you were the most wonderful mother and we will miss you everyday.  You will be in our hearts forever.  Bye for now, until we see you again.  Love you.

    Dear Family of June,
She was a very special lady. I met her in 1987 and after her retirement she remembered to send me a birthday card every year. She never missed once in 40 years. This is a photo of us getting together in Wasaga beach. I also remember a visit in Scarborough where I got to pick a gift from her Santa Bag. I have a little broach that she gave me, and when it’s one my collar, I smile her in remembrance. Rest in peace my dear friend, it was a pleasure to know you. Christine

June, you and Vi Richards are the ones that trained me when I started at Upjohn on August 19, 1974. You took me under your wings and guided me like a Mother would, so that I wouldn’t stray with the wrong people. I loved it when you whistled, you tried to show me how, but with my split teeth there was more spit then whistle, LOL we would laugh about that. R.I.P. my Friend.
    My condolences to the family.
