Matthew Mark Cormier

It is with heavy hearts and a deep, wordless sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Matthew.  Our hearts are irreparably broken, and we will never be the same without his beautiful smile that could light up a room.

Matthew Mark Cormier, age 39, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in August of 2021.  He battled hard, never gave up hope and left no stone of possible treatments unturned.  He was our hero and a warrior.  He succumbed to his illness on Monday, October 3^rd, 2022, passing peacefully in his sleep at Hospice Simcoe with his family and close friends by his side.

Matthew is survived by his partner, Caitlin, and his two beautiful children, Ruby and Griffin; his parents, Sharon and Rick; his sister, Kara (Jeff); and four nephews who adored him: Ethan, Max, Finn and Ben.  He is predeceased by his brother, Mark.  He leaves behind his brother from another mother, his rock, Eric.  Matthew will be sadly missed by his “boys” whom he loved like family: his large circle of childhood, college and work friends.  He loved his cousins like siblings and cherished all of his memories with them.  Matthew had many aunts and uncles who loved him dearly and already miss him.  He was loved by his extended family the Kowchs and shared a special bond with his Aunt Gloria.  He takes with him many fond memories of summer cottage fun and Ukrainian Christmas’.  Matthew enjoyed being part of the Fleming family of Jenny, Sandy, Jacquelin and Nick.

Matthew will always be remembered as a kind-hearted, humble, genuine and caring man.  He was non-judgmental and he never complained.  He lived his life in colour—he laughed and loved hard.  A man of many talents, he could sing, play guitar and write.  He was an artist and his paintings were like no other—beautifully unique, vibrant and colourful, and inspired by his life.  Matt was witty, clever and funny with an infectious smile that will live on in our memories forever.  He was an avid lover of sports.  He loved to watch golf, football, baseball and of course hockey—GO LEAFS GO!  A skilled athlete, he could dangle, deke and out skate the best of them. In his childhood, he played NOHA hockey for the Valley East Rebels and the Capreol Hawks.  As a young adult, Matthew graduated from St. Charles College and Georgian College with a degree in fine arts.  After graduating, he started his career at Hydro One where, at the time of his passing, he was a Distribution Lines Work Project Manager, managing and facilitating monetary and material assets with new and existing equipment on the Hydro One grid. Like everything else Matthew did in his life, he gave it his all and was proud of the work he had accomplished.

So many family members and friends have shared how Matt changed their lives for the better.  His beautiful soul and compassion has touched, influenced and forever changed us all.  During his illness, Matt expressed that he was grateful to have experienced all the life, travel and love that he had.  He had no regrets, and he cherished every moment spent with his family, friends and, most of all, his beautiful children.  His greatest pleasure in life was being a father to Ruby and Griffin. He will forever be their hero and now, their guardian angel.

• A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 22^nd, 2022 at 1 p.m. at All Nations Church, 414 Raphael St. Sudbury, ON.
• A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 19^th , 2022 at 7 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel, 85 Ste Anne Rd, Greater Sudbury, ON.
