In loving memory of my beautiful mother Beverley Ann Nation (nee Hurst) who slipped away from us on August 30, 2022 at Andy’s House in Port Carling. She was 85 years old. A much-loved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, she was predeceased by the love of her life Edward (Ed) Nation on December 2, 2021 and by her sister Nancy Evans. She is survived, by her daughter Heather Anne Nation (Toronto), sister Joan Foerter (Sudbury) and her many, much-loved nieces and nephews.
A “Muskoka Girl”, Bev grew up in Gravenhurst moving away to Toronto when she married Ed. However, they returned to Muskoka in 1974 to run the family owned Roselawn Lodge, located on the Moon River in Bala. For the next 25 years they created wonderful memories for both guests and staff alike. In 2015, with her good friend Chris Burgess, she created a Cookbook, “The Secrets of Roselawn Lodge”, sharing her love of cooking and the history of the Lodge.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the many caregivers at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (Bracebridge) and Andy’s House (Port Carling), for providing Bev with such excellent, compassionate care during her journey over the past year.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to Andy’s House (Muskoka Hospice) or the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation.
In keeping with Bev’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of a Life will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the the Legion, 1011 Maple Ave., Bala. Online memories and condolences may be made to the family at www.peacefultransition.ca

Posted on: Friday, September 2, 2022Heather, please accept my condolences for the loss of your mother. Although I never met her, hearing you talk about her I feel like I knew her. I’d like to give you this poem;
I Heard Your Voice In The Wind Today
I heard your voice in the wind today
and I turned to see your face;
The warmth of the wind caressed me
as I stood silently in place.
I felt your touch in the sun today
as its warmth filled the sky;
I closed my eyes for your embrace
and my spirit soared high.
I saw your eyes in the window pane
as I watched the falling rain;
It seemed as each raindrop fell
it quietly said your name.
I held you close in my heart today
it made me feel complete;
You may have died…but you are not gone
you will always be part of me.
As long as the sun shines…
the wind blows…
the rain falls…
You will live on inside of me forever
for that is all my heart knows.
Hugs to you, Sincerely, Heather Farnum

Posted on: Friday, September 9, 2022I fondly remember my two summers working at Roselawn Lodge
With your parents. They were great! So patient with young workers away from home for the first time. Both of them taught us and made it fun! I’m so sorry for your loss. Kathy

It was a true pleasure to have known your Mom. She brightened many days with her smile and humorous one liners. It was my honour to have been one of her many nurses. I can picture your Mom dancing and smiling as I write this message of condolence. Mary Boyer

Posted on: Monday, September 5, 2022Heather, I am so very sorry for your loss. I loved my chats with your mom, didn’t matter where, she always had time to chat. She loved her cats, always concerned for the safety of them, including mine. She’s with your dad now, and I’m very certain wherever she is, she’s definitely smiling!
May she Rest In Peace.

Posted on: Monday, September 5, 2022I am truly sorry for your loss Heather. I feel very fortunate to have met your mum. She was a joy when I was there for your dad. I loved seeing your mum as well. Your parents were very special to me and I feel so lucky to have spent the time with both of them. Your mum was such a sweet lady and I just loved her zest for life and her crazy sense of humour. She always made me laugh and she always made sure I was ok if I needed anything. She was a very kind and caring lady and I will truly miss her very much. Posted on: Wednesday, September 7, 2022Heather- our sincere condolences on the passing of Bev. We both knew Bev (and also Ed) for many years in a professional (healthcare) capacity. Bev was a very warm and and thoughtful person. Her fudge was legendary, as well as her love of her many feline friends. She spoke of you often.

Posted on: Monday, September 12, 2022Heather,
I have so many memories of your Mom and Dad, from special dinners and events held at the Lodge to visiting the Lucky Duck to pet house calls.
Visitors to their home were always made to feel so welcome. In the later “after Roselawn” years, a visit often revealed Bev with multiple cooking projects on the go all at once. She multi-tasked her way through the cooking and the fudge and the cookbook. Both your parents made a visitor feel so at home.
Your mother was strong, always positive about life and so giving. I liked and admired her greatly. It was my honour to help care for all the Sams and the house kitties and the outside feline waifs she took under her wing.
With sincere sympathy in your loss,
Mary

Posted on: Friday, September 30, 2022My dearest friend Heather
Its with great sorrow to hear of the passing of your mother
who slipped away to join your father in heaven. They will always
be remembered for true Love ,Kindness and Selflessness
to everybody. They (and you) took me in when I had nowhere to go
and treated me like a daughter and a sister. Even in the worst of their health
they would think of others and advise them . They will never be forgotten.
My sincere condolences . I will be here for you if you need a shoulder, a hug
or anything I can help with .My thoughts and prayers are with you .

Posted on: Friday, November 18, 2022Hello Heather
I am sorry to hear of the loss of your mom and your dad. I used to care for your dad when I worked for care partners. I thought of your parents often after I left my job.
Your mom was always kind to me and you as well Heather and I appreciated that more than I ever said
I enjoyed the time I spent caring for your dad. We had some great conversations.
I’m happy that they are together again.
Sincerely
Terri
