Adam Michael Wood

August 19, 1987 - December 2, 2021

Funeral Details: Celebration of Life on Sunday May 15th, 2022 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Words of Remembrance at 1:30 p.m. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 385 - 89 Industrial Parkway N. Aurora, Ontario

Beloved Son of Tom and Paula, cherished Brother to his three sisters Aaryn (Sergio), Amanda (Rob) and Abby (Phil), treasured Uncle to Audrey, Miguel and Levi and adored Grandson of Thomas and Shirley Cook and Bob and Marj Wood.

To know Adam is to be loved by him.  Adam lived life with a wide-open heart and a curious mind.  Known affectionately as a Gentle Giant, Adam’s larger-than-life presence lights up every room he walks into and his big hugs are like no other.

He loves his family fiercely.  Growing up surrounded by three sisters, Adam was always trying to make them laugh.  He has a special bond with both of his parents and seeing his loved ones having fun brings him so much joy.  Adam is deeply loved by his large extended family.  His strong family ties extend to the workplace as he joined his uncles’ business at the age of 15.  Adam took pride in his skill and made every day fun for those who worked alongside him.

Adam has a boundless passion for music and described playing guitar as his meditation.  He spent many hours a day composing his own arrangements on his favourite Telecaster but loved nothing more than to jam with his “boys”.  He’s deeply loved by his large circle of friends and looked forward to any opportunity to get together with them.

A hockey player by the age of three, Adam spent just about every winter weekend at the arena, eventually playing for the Aurora Tigers rep team as a teen.  In summers he looked forward to getting out on the boat in search of the “big catch” with his Dad and Grandpa, and later with his brothers-in-law and friends.

Adam has an effortless way of making you feel loved, listened to, and accepted.  We’re all blessed to have Adam in our lives in his time on earth and we know he’s smiling down on us in rock ‘n roll heaven.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday May 15, 2022 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Royal Canadian Legion Aurora, Ontario.  Remembrances will be shared at 1:30 p.m..  In lieu of flowers, Adam has requested donations to be made to SickKids Foundation.  Online memories and condolences may be made at www.peacefultransition.ca

Adam, so sorry to hear of your passing. We had lost touch, as life happens. I still remember all the great times we had at “Eagle House”. I still smile when I drive past it. You were always so kind and always greeted me with your contagious smile. You were an extremely talented musician and I always enjoyed your gigs playing with Holy Mind Funk. My condolences to the boys and all members of the Wood family. Rest In Peace Adam.

    Dearest Wood Family ❤️
I am truly blessed and honoured to have grown up within such a loveable, caring, kind hearted family. No wonder we are all such massive humans, whoever created us had to fit gigantic hearts and awesome souls in there that they needed some extra space! Especially Adam. Honestly there was never a time I saw him where he didn’t have the biggest smile plastered on his face. He was always cracking a sly joke and making others feel so welcome and special. My favourite moment was the last time we saw each other when Saxon and I were visiting home from Australia. We popped in for a surprise visit and Adams face absolutely lit up. He gave me the biggest hug and asked so many questions about Australia and how Saxon and I were doing. He was so stoked to hear that we were going to a Maple Leafs game that weekend. He genuinely cares so much about everyone around him. Even when I wasn’t legal drinking age yet he’d offer me a beer at family gatherings or made sure I had an ice cold can of pop. I always looked forward to eating turkey dinner with him out on your porch, playing manhunt, road hockey, and collecting Easter eggs. He’d always let everyone else find the eggs. For such a tall man he had such a quiet giggly contagious laugh where his shoulders would bob up and down. I’ll never forget that laugh. I’ll never forget all the memories we shared growing up. I’m so lucky to have had the best cousin out there! What an incredible, strong man. Sending all my love, hugs, kisses and warm wishes to you all.
Can’t wait to see you soon xoxo We’ll be having a cold one for you Adam ❤️ Rock on
    Love always,

    Katelynn & Saxon

The fact that Adam had been donating to the Hospital for Sick Children for years and that he continued monthly donations throughout his illness speaks volumes about who he was as a person. Paula and Tom, you raised him well.

I didn’t know Adam but I do know Amanda from working with her. I felt her love for Adam when she spoke about him and it is quite obviously a special kind of love and connection. From the other condolence messages, it’s clear that the love you have in your family is a special kind of love – the very kind that will help you all live on with Adam as a huge part of your every moment and your very existence. Sending love and strength to my friend Amanda and to her very special family.

Adam was such an incredible young man. He was one of the most generous, considerate and compassionate people I have ever known. He had a heart of gold and was always putting the needs of others ahead of his own. Adam seemed to accept every obstacle as a challenge, quite often exceeding the expectations of the physicians and other health care professionals. I honestly don’t know where he found the strength. He was such a warrior. His heroic battle was truly inspiring.
I was very fortunate to spend many afternoons with Adam these past few years. Some of my fondest memories are sitting with my beloved friend Paula, on the deck in the backyard of their family home. It wouldn’t be long before Adam would join us for a bowl of cherries or some cake pops and perhaps a glass of lemonade. Even when he wasn’t feeling great after a treatment, he would take the time to sit and visit for a little while, always asking me how my mother was doing. There were also times when Adam would be up in his room with the windows wide open playing his guitar, creating his beautiful music. A man in his element! I will cherish those times.
My heartfelt condolence to the family on Adam’s passing. I hope that you will find some comfort and strength in the love of family and friends. He touched so many lives during his life. Adam’s legacy will live on in the hearts and lives of everyone who had the good fortune to know him. He will always be in my heart and in my memories.
Big hugs and lots of love

    Adam and The Wood Family,

I am so grateful to have had Adam as my (only slightly) older and taller cousin.

The memories I have at family functions growing up with Adam are some of my finest; ones that I will treasure forever.

He taught me the art of the slap shot. Something about that garage door in Aurora and how rubber pucks indented it only slightly, yet made the loudest bang that would only echo into the garage. And how Uncle Tom and Aunt Paula allowed that. We did that every Easter and Thanksgiving for a handful of years during the ‘golden years’ of our childhoods. That driveway was where our friendship was solidified.

While on the topic, I’ll also never forget the clapper I took off the noggin from a stray ice chunk released from Adam’s stick, accidentally high, at Grandma and Grandpa’s house in Alliston, Christmas Eve, late 1990’s. It cut me a bit, but not bad. Nothing to warrant stitches or anything. But Adam felt absolutely terrible. He thought he had caused me great pain and just felt absolutely rotten. It was barely a scratch.

That leads me to, what is the fundamental trait of Adam’s character, as I knew him: kindness. He was the kindest guy. Always invested in my/our well-being. Truly. Even in his final days.

The shenanigans we got up to as kids will always be something I can look back on and laugh at. Adam’s curious mind, gentle heart, hilarious sense of humour and absolutely magical riffs are just a few of the many things that made him one helluva dude.

See you again some day Cuz!

    Will
