One thing I’ll always remember about Cheri is her love of the outdoors! The first time my brothers and I went rock climbing was with Cheri and Mike. We also did a cool hike in the Barrie area around the same time, which was great. Her outdoors spirt has rubbed off on me for sure.

I will always remember Cheri’s generosity and positive spirit.
Her friendships were so genuine.
She will be sorely missed.

I have such fond memories and loads of respect for Cheri. I am saddened to hear of her passing, Cheri was so kind and welcoming to me when I first started in the outdoor industry. I was brand new and she had the patience and kindness to help me learn more along the way.  She taught me the importance of standing up for independent businesses, the power of knowledge and customer service and also had the best recommendations as I tried to embrace a more active outdoor lifestyle.  My family and I continued to shop at Sojourn long after I left the industry. My deepest condolences to all that love her; may she rest in peace for this next part of her adventure.

Although we never knew Cheri directly, we’ve known Joni for years and have appreciated all the stories. To us she seems like a wonderful soul and we know that she will be truly missed by all who’s lives she touched. We wish you all peace at this trying time.

Cheri, I will miss your smile and mischievous giggle, your kind words, hugs, similar taste in clothes, and shared love of tequila. I will always remember the trip to New York, and the joy you emanated in the belt shop! May you now be free from pain, and your inner fire lit once more as you reunite with your beloved.

Of all the amazing women that I have met in the outdoor industry, Cheri will always stand apart for her warm heart, her kind words and her dedication. I’m glad she gets to be with Mike again and will miss them both.

It is with profound sadness that I heard of Cheri’s passing this week.
I met Cheri 40 years ago when she worked the “Weekender” program with Project DARE. She always had a generous and compassionate spirit full of energy, enthusiasm and adventure.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is leaving the world a better place.

Cheri inspired and facilitated adventures and memories throughout her life. So many memories to be shared, so few words to sum up the impact she had on my life. Missing you already.

I feel so blessed to have been part of Cheri’s life story. Her heart so giving and is STILL giving….just now from above and a heavenly place that one day we can only hope to join her in. Ah Cheri, thanks for the good years working at Sojourn and your friendship then, and since. It was always great to catch up when we ran into each other. I’m so glad Suzanne and I “accidentally “ had dinner with you two years ago in Midland.
You touched many lives in your busy life.

As a fellow woman entrepreneur and outdoor adventurer, I very much admired and respected Cheri’s spirit and energy. I will miss our impromptu chats, laughs and sharing of ideas. I wish there could have been many more. May you be having more adventures and sunsets.

I will always remember Cheri as one of my sister’s best friends, growing up on Lansdowne Avenue just around the corner from where we lived on Murray Street. Our families were intertwined in many ways back in those days, most noticeably by both households being filled with mostly girls.
As the only boy in the Kelly family, I know I witnessed a lot of noise, laughter, loud discussions and a few tears among all the girls in different combinations over the years and now, as an aging adult male, I like to think I’m a better person for having experienced all of it.
I have nothing but fond memories of Cheri “in the old days” and as a grown up, an added bonus of going to Arizona in the winter months to be with my sister for awhile was always the possibility that Cheri would be visiting at the same time.
She is one of those few people I can not help but quietly smile about when I think of our shared experiences and friendship.
Like so many others, I will remember her and miss her.

I am sending heartfelt conolences to the Doman/Krisza family and all who knew Cheri. I sit here on her birthday remembering all the great times from childhood to adulthood, neighbourhood walks (even when she was on crutches, sweltering or freezing – no excuses), hanging out on the porch at Murray Street, sampling whatever my Mom was baking, Cheri breezing in to visit whether Cynth was home or not ~ always loving and caring toward my parents and no matter the thought I would share with her, she would say, “Go for it, eh? Why not?” Loving and loved then and always. Sojourn on sweet soul. xo

Thinking of the Doman clan and my Aunt Cynthia, sending love & friendship to you all. Cheri will always hold a special place in my heart and her kindness and encouragement through many of my milestones still guide me. I will remember her gentleness, her genuine care of others, her soulful advice and love of life and nature. Her smile, the best, her laugh, infectious, her visits with our family, meaningful and as if time never passed, her hugs, always lasted until next time. We shall remember Cheri for her passion and engagement, and above all for her expansive and generous spirit. Unfortunately, we have not been in the Barrie area for years and so were not able to see Cheri for quite a while. But with her passing, the world seems to have grown smaller.

Cheri will always be missed. She helped my family and me in ways I could never thank her enough for . She was truly an incredible person who loved unconditionally and helped without question. I will always remember her powerful smile. ❤

My sincere condolences to Cheri’s family, her close friends and everyone at Sojourn. If only the world had more people like Cheri. She was the best of the best and gave so much back. I am grateful to have know you Cheri.

Cheri was such a pillar in my life. I started working for her when I was only 17, and now nearly 20 years later, I look back and see how many moments there were, where she touched my life in unique ways. From sweating it out during tent-day sales, to long paddles on Georgian Bay — she introduced me to a life I had not seen. She taught me how to work and she taught me how to play. And, in this day-and-age the work-life balance lesson is one of the most important to remember.

My condolences to her family — Cheri, you were a generous soul — thank you, and I will miss you deeply.

Your strength, wisdom, patience and passion are just the beginning of a near endless list of attributes I admired in you.

You gave me tough love and every opportunity to grow as a leader. You are and will always be a role model to me.

Cheri was always up for an adventure! While attending the Outdoor Retailer show in Utah we went fly fishing. Cheri had never been fly fishing before, within 5 mins Cheri caught this beautiful trout. Made it look easy! What a great day on the river and a time I will never forget. Cheri’s enthusiasm and energy was infectious and she was always up for a challenge. My deepest condolences, you will be missed.

I first met Cheri through the Barrie Canoe Club when she worked for MCSS and Project Dare. She and Mike were always so generous with promoting paddling and outdoor adventure in our community; organizing and participating in paddling film festivals, lending staff and equipment to outdoor shows, sponsoring all kinds of outdoor adventures for others and donating many, many hours of their personal time. I just can’t talk about Cheri without including Mike….and Koda. You have touched so many lives. I will miss you my friend.

My heart goes out to all of the family and friends. I met Mike and Cheri back when they first opened Sojourn and remained a friend. It’s difficult to talk about one and not the other… I have much love for these two beautiful souls. Our life paths intertwined and crossed many times and for that I am very grateful. Sorry to hear of Cheris passing. I worked at sojourn for a year and a half and my mom shopped at the first store when I was younger. I will never forget Cheri calling me when I worked at mec to tell me that a mutual friend of our had passed away tragically. The woman used to also work at sojourn when I did. The last time I saw Cheri was a few years ago on the 400 ext to bayfield street it was the summer and we both put our windows down to have a chat. She was a fun and energetic lady that the earth will miss deeply. Rest In Peace Cheri.

We send our sympathies to you, all of Cheri’s family and friends at this sad time. We were never fortunate enough to meet with Cheri but feel that we got to know her from the narrative shared by the Moran family of Barry. It is obvious that she was held in love and respect by our Canadian cousins.

Our prayer is that she is united with Mike and her dad, and Gerald, Eileen and Garry, in the life hereafter.

Cheri always shared the gifts of her smile, genuine interest and concern to everyone she touched. Her love and light will be missed in a world that will needs her sparkle. May we find comfort in the peace of the forests & snow this season and remember Cheri’s gifts to our community.

My deepest condolences to Cheri’s family, friends and the Sojourn family. I live in Western Canada and only occasionally return to Barrie to visit. When I had the chance, I would stop by the store to say hello. I probably hadn’t seen Cheri for five years and had no idea that she was ill. Cheri and Mike hired me as a university student seasonally for several years when they expanded and moved Sojourn to the south end, which was about 20 years ago. To me, Cheri was an inspiring business woman, a very caring and generous individual, a mentor, possessing a youthful spirit and, relentless in her positive energy! I feel very grateful to have worked for her (and Mike) when I was a young person, with only a few work experiences under my belt at the time. I learned a lot under her guidance in those years, which has served me well in life. Also, think of how many people in the region have been enabled on adventures near and far and by the healthy, outdoor lifestyle that Cheri promoted through the Sojourn community – it is palpable! Thank you Cheri – you are so missed!

I will forever remember Cheri riding her motorbike down Highway 26. What an inspiration she was as an employer and mentor. Thank you Cheri for your generous support and kindness to so many of your employees and customers. You made us all feel like family.

I will miss Cheri’s friendly greetings – whether in the store, or on the trail. In her own quiet way, she was so inspirational to many.

It was my great pleasure to share a farm house with Cheri and Pam Epps in the early 80’s near Barrie. I’ll always remember Cheri for her incredible energy. I’m not sure her feet touched the ground. I can still see her perma grin and hear her infectious laugh with sparkling eyes.

I am saddened to learn of Cheri’s passing. She always had a friendly hello, and asked about my adventures with great interest. She always knew what I was up to, because it necessitated a trip to Sojourn for some needed equipment.

I worked with Cheri to bring the Banff Mountain Film Festival to Barrie and Orillia for the past 20+ years. She was always such a joy to work with! I recall asking her the secret to her incredibly successful shows and her answer was all about her love and dedication to her community.
Cheri you are missed. My thoughts are with your friends, family, and community!

I just found out. Sojourn has been my “ Goto “ store for years and years. I can’t drive up from Toronto without wanting to to go there, and say hi ti to Cheri whenever I’m up.
My first trip up yesterday since last year, and was looking forward to it.
I am deeply saddened, but I will celebrate knowing her and always carry my memories of her with me. She will always be around, especially when I’m in nature. Which is all the time.
